Hey guitar friends, I'm glad you're with me here again today learning another one
My name is Robbie Trujillo
And I want to help you become a better guitar player and learn how to play your favorite country songs on guitar
I got some requests to do a lesson on daddy doesn't pray anymore by Chris Stapleton
So that's what I'm going to show you how to play today pretty easy three chord country song the chords
we're going to play here are e a
_ _ [A] _ _ and B7
[B] _ _ _ Here's what our intro sounds [E] like
_ [B] _ _ [E] _ _ _ _ _
So I'm starting out on the E chord
I'm picking two strings so the sixth string and then the fourth string and then I'm doing a down strum
And then I'm coming up to the fifth string and [A] going open
first fret
then [B] second fret and going into the B7 [B] chord and
I'll go fifth string fourth string then down up _ _
[C#] Then go back to [E] the E chord sixth string then fourth string
Down up, and I'm doing a hammer on here on the third string so from first fret
To second fret and then coming back off
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
And you can just use the down up down up down up strumming pattern throughout the whole song or you can do this two strings
Then down up _ _ _
_ _ _ _ So for the E you pick the sixth and then the fourth string for the a you pick the fifth [A] and then the fourth string
_ _ Or the B7 pick [B] the fifth and then fourth string and then down up and you can also
Alternate here [F#] when you're playing the B7 and move up here to the sixth string second fret _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [E] _
_ Or just do the down up down up down up, so I'm gonna play through the intro one more time straight through
_ _ [A] _ [B] _ _ [E] _ _
_ _ _ The song starts out on the chorus, so here's how we play the chorus
Daddy
doesn't [A] pray
[E] _ _ _ _
Guess he's finished [A] talking to [B] the Lord _ _
[A] He used to fold his hands and bow his [E] head down
[A] _
[E] But daddy
[B] doesn't pray
_ [E] _ _ _
_ That's our chorus, then we go in to the first verse so here's how we play the verse and here
I'll just do the simple down up down up strumming pattern so you can see how that would look I
remember
[B] Even when times [E] were bad
_ He thanked Jesus
[A] Everything [B] he had
_ [A] For a good [B] wife and three children
Food [E] upon [A] our legs
[E] Yeah, everything was [B] right
Then [E] _ _ _ we go through play the chorus again, and then we have the next verse so here's the next verse
I'll be doing the two string picking and then down up for this next verse
There was a time
When [B] we didn't get along
_ _ Cuz I thought I was [A] right and he [B] Was wrong
_ Still when I laid down at night.
I'd hear him get down on his knees
[E] Say a little prayer
Then _ we play through the chorus again
And then we have the instrumental break where we'll play through the same chord progression there that we play through the verse and the
Chorus, and then we have our last verse so here's how we play the final verse
today
[B] I followed Daddy down to church
[E] _
_ Listen [A] to the preacher read [B] God's Word _
_ [A] Sang his [B] favorite hymn
[E] Daddy didn't [A] make a sound
[E] this afternoon
[B] _ _ [E] _ _ _
And
We play through the final chorus we change the words up a little bit there and finish up the song
Let's put it all together now play along with me here starting on the intro and let's play through the full thing _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
Daddy [B] doesn't pray
_ [E] _ _ anymore I
Guess he's finished [A] talking to
[B] Lord
_ [A] He used to fold his [B] hands bow his [E] head down to
[A] _ [E] Daddy doesn't [B] pray
_ [E] I
_ Remember even [A] when times were [E] bad
_ He thanked Jesus [A] for everything [B] Yeah
_ _ [A] For a good wife and [B] three children
[E] the food upon [A] _ [E] I
Everything's right _ _ _ _
Daddy [B] doesn't pray
[E] I _ _
Guess he's [A] finished talking [B] to Lord
_ [A] He used to [B] fold his hands and [E] bow his head down
_ [A] _ _
[E] Doesn't pray
_ _ _ Was a time
When we didn't get along
_ _ Cuz I thought [A] I was right and he [B] was wrong
_ [A] Still when I laid [B] down at night I'd [E] hear him get down on his knees
Still [B] it'll pray
_ [E] _ _ _ Daddy [B] doesn't pray
[E] I
_ _ Guess he's [A] finished talking [B] to the Lord
_ [A] Used to fold [B] his hands and bow [E] his head down
[A] But [E] daddy [B] doesn't pray [E] today _ _ _ I [B] follow daddy [E] down
_ _ Listen to [A] the preacher read [B] God's Word
[F#m] _ [A] Sang his favorite [B] hymn
[E] That he didn't make [A] sound
[E] this afternoon
[B] _ _ _ _ _ Daddy doesn't pray.
[E] I _ _ guess he's finally [A] walking with
[B] Lord
_ [F#m] _ [A] Used to fold his [B] hands and bow his [E] head down
[A] _ [E] But daddy doesn't pray _ _ _ _ _ _
