[G#] I was in like the lowest low of my entire life.
Came [F] off the road and I was like,
man, [G#] I fucking hate music.
[D#] I'm ready to quit.
I [G] could feel the separation and I think there was
there [Em] was little things between you and [Bm] I
that we never [G] talked about.
It was affecting everything, you know, not just our band.
Like, [Em] marriage, everything.
I was just in a really [Bm] dark place.
[G] Whether [Em]
[D] we break up and [C] we hug it out and say,
man, this [F] has been the best 10 years of my [Am] life,
or we say, man, this is a launching off point.
[Em] This is a new beginning.
This is a chance for [D] a
[Em] whole new outlook on [G] life.
[G#m]
[G] I feel like this was kind of the [G#] first time, like,
after the arena tour, after COVID,
[G] that we were able to like step back and just assess.
[Em] For me, we didn't ever take [D] time to be able to
[G] appreciate winning a Grammy or all these things
because it was just happening [Em] so fast.
You live [D] life, things happen, life [G] gets in the way.
Yeah.
And I had no balance before.
It was completely one-sided.
I was ignoring my marriage.
I was ignoring all my friends.
And I [C] completely burnt myself [D] out.
Entirely burnt [Am] myself out.
I think about all those [G] things, though,
that we [D] did and all the decisions that [G] I made.
Of course I wish that I would have been more present
in the moment.
Wish I would have hung out with you more.
I mean, I was just in this very
feeling sorry for myself [F#m] place.
[G] And not wanting to take responsibility for anything.
I think that's a lot of the reason why I was unhappy
during our arena tour.
Like, we [C] built this thing up in our head.
I was hanging so [A] much of my happiness
on the success of that arena tour.
And even when it was successful,
I got to that show, and then we would
[Gm] leave mad about something stupid.
And it was because [C] we put so much weight
on that moment that when it was over,
[G] what a downer.
Especially at that [C] point,
I was drinking a lot.
So those highs
became really high, [G] and the lows
became really, [D] really low.
We just weren't working on it.
We [C] let things get in the way.
We let things fly out the window.
[G] Man, that moment where we sat down [C] and just
talked it out, I feel like was
so [D] healthy.
That night was like,
that [G] night changed it all.
Changed everything.
And I feel like that was such a big [Em] turning point.
It [A] was [D] us saying to each other,
like, look, I'm willing [G] to fight for this.
The thing that filled my cup [A] the most
was being in a room with you.
[E] Making music together.
And one of the most important
things that's ever happened in my life
is Dana [A] Shay.
[Em]
We love this band.
This has been our life.
It matters.
And [A] it matters to people.
And we had a [Em] responsibility,
and we owed it to them.
[D#] If we're [C#m] going to keep going forever,
[F#m] let's get ourselves right [B] then.
Let's have a gut check.
[E] [B] [A] It's amazing [E] to know
now that [A] we [Em] found that joy
that [E] we were talking about.
It started out
of a very [A] genuine place.
You [E] and I
sat [A] down with acoustic guitars.
We just [E] genuinely
wanted to hang [F#m] out with each other.
We wanted to hang out,
and it was like writing [B] a song
was just our hanging out.
I can [F#m] feel the closeness of our
relationship and our friendship when I [B] listen back
to [Em] the music.
We are by far
[B] a million [A] times
[E] the closest we've ever been.
For so many
reasons.
[A] But because we worked at it, that
makes what we're doing now infinitely
[E] sustainable.
I could do this the rest of my life.
I don't know where the destination is.
I don't know where we're going.
But the
lessons that we learned along the way,
it is [F#m] the drive there.
[B] And I just think that
the [C#m] accumulation of this
journey has really [A] taken us
to this [B] point because it's changed
our [E] lives.
I mean, honestly, the process of this
[A] completely changed our lives.
[E] This is it, man.
I love you.
I love you, dude.
This [G#m] is
I'm [A] proud of you.
[E] I'm gonna cry now.
