It's difficult for me to comprehend that the only thing that you feel when you look back
is rooted in the Metallica [D] thing.
[Gm] Okay.
[N] I'll explain in as simple terms as I can, not to stultify you, but to just make it really easy.
I had nothing.
Then I had nothing again.
nothing to everything to nothing.
someone stand on the back of [Eb] my head and [Bb] keep me underwater [N] made it even harder for me.

It's difficult for me to comprehend _ that the only thing that you feel when you look back
on the last 20 years _ _ _ is rooted _ in the Metallica [D] thing. _
_ [Gm] _ _ _ Okay.
[D] _ _
[N] I'll explain in as simple terms as I can, not to stultify you, but to just make it really easy. _
I had nothing.
Then I had everything.
Then I had nothing again.
And it was okay going from nothing to everything to nothing.
But then having someone stand on the back of [Eb] my head and [Bb] keep me underwater _ [N] made it even harder for me.
_ I've been erased from any _ involvement.
The quotes that I was never meant to be in here anyways, I was just filling a spot, I was just a temporary guy,
I was a fucking loser and a drunk, I got kicked out.
All the horrible things that were said immediately after my firing.
I agree, I should have been fired because I was dangerous because of my disease.
_ _ _ But watching for so many years the band continue to become successful and successful and successful
and us to never [Eb] address the way that I was like,
Oh [N] my God Lars, you guys woke me up and said, you know what, you're out.
And I asked you, what?
No warning?
[Bb] _ _ _ _ _ _
I said, no second chance?
_ [Gm] _
And you guys said, no, go. _ _ _
Good God, man, I didn't get a chance.
And I've lived, and maybe _ for [N] some people, you know, 18 years is a long time.
For me it seems like yesterday.
I woke up and I look up and I see the guys that I love, that are my extended family.
_ I remember all I had was my [D] mom.
All I had was you and James.
_ [Bb] We had dreams together _ and I sold [N] everything to join that dream.
_ _ And then it ended.
[D] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [Bb] _ _ _ _
And I agree with you for [E] doing what you did. _ _
_ [A] Because of the nature of the disease.
_ _ [D] _ _ _ But don't kid yourself. _ _ _ _ _
I [Eb] mean, there _ _ [D] was ways to address _ [N] what was going on, _ [D] _ _
you know, with my problem. _ _ _
_ And [Bb] who I am sober is totally different from who I am drunk.
_ We never gave it a try.
We never gave it a chance.
[D] _ _ Would it have worked?
_ _ _ As much as I loved being with you guys, _ I'm sure it would have.
_ [Gm] _ _ I'm coming down to the part about the violence.
_ [N] You know, if _ _ I was at a party and I saw someone hit you again, I'd break his leg [G] again in a second.
[Bb] That's just my nature.
I'm [D] overprotective to the people that I love. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ And every time I see Phil, I feel bad for him.
_ _ _ _ [E] _
But I wasn't going to let him hurt you. _ _ _
Sandoval from Armored Saint.
Don't you remember when he was breaking his leg?
I don't know.
I remember [N] the incident.
He pushed you down and he hurt you.
I made sure he didn't hurt you again. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
I'm going to fuck with my band members. _ _ _ _
_ I _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ had this clear vision, which I don't know if I've ever told you.
But the night where we _ decided to let you go, a couple of days before we let you go,
we played some show and me and you were just sitting there.
I think we were smoking some pot and being very mellow.
And I just remember _ this clear vision of just being overwhelmed with sadness and emotion
about what was about to go down literally like eight hours after that. _
Not saying in any way that I was not equally responsible for being part of making that decision,
but at the same time feeling _ just an overwhelming sadness and guilt.
Because I really felt that when all the bullshit went away,
a lot of the boasting and the he-man and all that bullshit sort of went away,
that you were a really tender person.
I felt that you had this really tender side to you [E] that I was really attracted to
and that I really felt comfortable with.
_ And I _ think that's always been there.
And _ _ that's why I think I sought you out.
_ I'm not mad at you, Lawrence.
_ _ _ _ I _ don't want anything from anybody. _ _
I still have my dreams. _ _ _
I'm glad that _ James is getting help.
I really am. _ _ _ _
_ I wish that James was here. _
I wish Cliff was here. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
