We asked Georgia if she'd like to talk about something tonight, kind of light and airy,
and all she seems to want to do is to talk about her protege that she's going to present here,
and it's an interesting story because he plays the artful [Eb] dodger in the show.
[F] That's right, Davey, he's got a fan, somebody.
[Eb] Davey started [E] as [A] a jockey, he was found, he used
to sing in the, while [E] training the horses, and somebody told [N] him he should go to London and make
fame, which he did, he got into Oliver in London, and then the children, as you know, grow so
quickly, and we had a dodger on tour [Abm] with us before we came into New York, and [Ab] he became enormous,
and so they sent for Davey, and I met Davey, and I felt an immediate empathy with what I thought was
a young Cockney [D] boy.
He does have a Cockney accent.
Well, he does now, but I later discovered that
Davey actually talks like that, he's from the Midlands, he's from Manchester.
Well, how are
they talking?
Well, the difference, Cockney talks like that, you see, and from Manchester, they talk
like [B] that, and it's very difficult for a young person, you know, it is different.
[D] It would be
like our Brooklyn and our Southern accent.
That's right, it would be from somebody from Brooklyn
suddenly [N] walking in and playing a Southern part, and I suddenly heard Davey say something one day,
like, uh, Cormier, something like that, I said, Davey, what's that?
He said, well, that's my original accent, I'm from Manchester,
and I thought that was brilliant that the boy in such a short time, you know, developed [C] the Cockney
accent.
Well, on the stage, it's a fight [Em] for Davey, to be [Ab] noticed, even, you know, [D] he's an incredible
young performer, and the audiences [Eb] just love him, he's very natural.
Where are you from originally, in England?
I'm a Cockney, I'm from London.
[Eb] Are you Cockney?
Yeah.
That's kind of the official language of the theatre
in London.
Of late, [N] we've had a great change in the British theatre, because people from the Midlands
and from the East End have finally made their mark [Em] on the British stage.
There was a time once
that there was absolutely no possibility for [D] us to make it in the theatre,
but today it's different, it's a marvelous thing.
Yes, it sure is.
All right, well, [Gb] let's take a look at Davey,
shall we?
I've [G] seen him in the show, but I want to make sure a lot of things [N] are clear.
Right now, appearing for the very first time on network television, here is very young Davey Jones.
