[Db] how our relationship had its eventual [Bbm] demise and how _ [Fm] _ we broke up
for things that I don't think there was any real way [Eb] that we could work through our [Ebm] issues
[Fm] and things to prevent us from lasting [Bbm] in the long run.
But [Fm] how for _ _ [Cm] literally [Ab] three years after [Db] we split up, we kind of fell into this [Bbm] toxic
window [Fm] of _ still [Eb] sleeping with one another, still [Db] going out on dates [Bbm] like we were still a couple.
And [Fm] _ _ honestly, it just [Cm] turned into this _ [Db] really unhealthy lifestyle [Bbm] where [G] I [Fm] was still going
out with other people while [Eb] this was happening.
I [Fm] think she was going out with other people while this was happening.
And _
[Db] I _ think it's just about kind of like [Bbm] both of our battles that _ we didn't [Fm] want to let
the other person go, even though we knew it wasn't really going [Eb] to work out _ in the long run.
And [F] _
[Eb] it touches base just basically on a point [Bbm] where _ [Ab] we actually cut things off [Fm] entirely.
_ And more so, it was kind of [Eb] about my own guilt in that I felt like I [Ab] could have ended it
[Db] _ a lot earlier than [Bbm] _
[F] three years, hence the [Ab] three-year one-night stand line in the [Db] song.
_ _ And [G] _ _
[Fm] sleep talk, I kind of used [Eb] as a metaphor that there [Db] were _ times basically where _ _ _
[Fm] I would
find [Cm] hair ties or [Db] jewelry in my room and I [Bbm] wouldn't know if it was [Fm] hers or if it was
somebody _ [Eb] _ else's that [Db] I had been seeing.
And [Bbm] this internal guilt [Fm] would kind of build [Cm] within myself [Db] that it almost felt like I was
cheating on her, [G] even though [Fm] her and I weren't actually dating.
[Eb] _ _ And I basically used _ [Ab] sleep talk as a metaphor in the sense that [Eb] she would be lying next
to me in bed, [Cm] fully conscious and [Ab] fully awake.
And then while I'm asleep, I would be [Eb] saying another girl's name while she's [Fm] lying next to me.
So that didn't actually happen, but it seemed like a more _ artistic way of [Db] expressing, _ again,
[Bbm] just kind of like my [Fm] guilt and my feelings with the situation [Cm] that _ [Gm] I [Db] didn't want _ her
to [Bbm] find out about other people that I was [Fm] seeing, even though we weren't together.
_ And just sort of [Db] how _ I think despite our differences [G] and how we didn't [Fm] work out, that I think [Cm] she's
a great person and that [Db] I didn't really feel deserving [Bbm] of [Fm] her love or a [Eb] relationship that
good [Db] in general.
But [Bbm] it sort of just touched base in the fact [Fm] that it was for the best [Cm] that we had to be
split [Db] up and that [Bbm] hopefully each of us would [Fm]
