of show business starting with this story on the latest wrinkle in Dean
Martin's career.
Dean is up for a couple of new movie roles including one with
Burt Reynolds and as Elaine Gannick reports his new album the Nashville
Sessions takes Martin into some fresh musical territory.
[D] [Gb]
[B] He was born Dino Paul Cruchetti in [G] Steubenville Ohio and by the time he [Gb] was
15 [E] he had dropped out of high school.
I [Fm] was gonna be a [Eb] baseball player that's all.
At [Abm] 46 [Cm]
[Fm] he teamed up with [Db] Jerry Lewis until then [Bb] both their careers have been
mediocre at best [Eb] but together they found fame and [Bb] fortune.
You gotta have fun if not
you might as well lay down and throw dirt on you.
[Ab] [Eb] [Ab]
[Eb] [Ab] [G] Martin's career not only survived a split with Lewis but [Gm] flourished with
movies of his own [Bb] and a hit TV series which was on the air for [Gm] nine years.
[Gbm]
[Ab] [N] He's also been a major recording star with 12 gold and four platinum [Abm] albums.
Now at age 66 he's gone [Eb] back into the studio to cut a [Ab] new album.
I'm drinking champagne and [Abm] feeling no [B] pain [Bbm] [Eb] till early morning.
[Bbm] [B] It also means going back to [Gb] something he [Bb] personally enjoys [Eb] country music.
[Bb] 28 years ago I started recording country music back in LA and all the other singers
say what are you doing you crazy I said no I'm not [Ab] crazy.
For his latest album he's teaming up again with his old friend and [Abm] record producer Jimmy Bowen.
We started work together in 1963 [D] and we just are in the middle of an album now
so that's about [Db] 19 20 years [N] I guess it'll be.
He asked me if I would come to Nashville and do a real country western album [Ebm] I said yes.
It's been [E] 10 years since Martin [Bb] recorded his last album and it was even difficult
[Dbm] back then to get him into the studio.
I'm just sitting there and I [Bb] said you know we [Ab] ought to do one more killer album
before you hang it [Bb] up.
[C] Really a real good final album and he looked at me like I'd thrown cold water on him
he said Pally I got 50 million dollars I don't [Bb] need to do that.
And all of a sudden coming down here has done something to me and the two movie offers
so something may happen
