I love the Deftones man.
_ I loved it [D] when they first came out.
I love their abstract, their mood, everything.
I got a couple Deftones I'm going to bring in myself if nobody requests them.
So [C] the tuning for this.
I think it's drop C. _
Yeah, it's drop C.
_ _ _ Make sure I'm right here.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ So drop C on your tuning.
I'm going to show you the first two parts which are involving the [G] same chords.
Bar the third fret _ [Bb] _ _ _
on all [A] the strings with your first finger and then go third finger
5G and pinky [D] _ _ _
_ _ 6B. _ _ _
Deftones when they play their chords a lot they involve more than just two strings a
lot [A] of times and it just gives you more of that ambiance, that mood that [C] it creates.
So the strum on this is pretty cool too once you get this down.
But _ check the [Bb] strings go [Eb] up. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ So once they're clear go.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ That's the pattern.
[C] You're going to do that twice.
[Eb] So if you have to break it in pieces.
Down, up, down, up, down.
That's a little piece of that.
_ So down, up, down, up, down.
Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down.
Up, down, up, down.
Up, down, up, down, up, down.
[G] Then we're going to move it up here to barring the seventh fret [C] and then go third finger
_ _ _ [G] _ _
[D] 9D and this is just going to be involving E, A, and D.
String 6 [C] through 4.
_ [D] _ Down, up, down, up, down.
Up, down, up, down, up, down, up. _ _ _
_ _ _ And then [A] take your pinky go to fret 10 on the [C] D but leave your third finger where it's
at because we're going to go right back to it in a second.
[Gm] _ Down _ _ _ _ and then lift your pinky up. _ _ _ _
So.
_ _ _ _ So when you're on that 10 it's down, up, down, [D] up, down. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ Okay.
_ _ _ _ [Gm] _
_ [D] _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ [Eb] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _ [Gm] _
_ _ _ _ _ [A] And then that's obviously on [C] the clean channel.
I'm going to switch over to channel 3 which is my real heavy distortion channel.
_ [B] _
And same chords.
Bar the third fret [A] on everything.
Fifth [Bb] fret G, sixth fret B.
[Eb] Go 1, 2, 3, 1, 2.
[C] It's the basic idea.
Really heavy and a lot of gain and overdrive.
It's kind of hard to hear the strum.
There's not a lot of strumming as compared to the intro though.
[Eb]
So we'll go. _ _ _ _ _
_ [G] Down, down, down, down, down.
[Eb] We're going to do that twice. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [Bb] Then move [C] up to 7, 7 _ on the, well just bar the seventh fret. _
_ And go 9 on the D just like we did on the [G] other chords.
[D] And go.
_ _ [Eb] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [D] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Down, down, down.
_ _ [C] And then add your pinky to 10 D.
Leave everything else [Gm] down.
Go. _
_ You're going to hit two hits [G] there.
Lift the pinky off and you'll be back to the 9 D.
So.
_ [D] _ _ _
_ [Bm] Hear the melody changing there?
It's only on one [A] string so it's like.
_ _ _ _ [Bb] _ [Am] _ _
_ _ _ [A] You've got to keep that 7 E and A [D] ringing with that.
_ _ _ _ [Gm] _ _
[A] _ _ _ [Eb] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [Cm] You just want to keep it the same strum you did here.
As you do over here.
Down, down, down, [C] down, down, down, down, down, down, [B] down, down, down.
[C] They're not staying consistent.
In other words, they're strumming it basically.
They have kind of a set pattern but. _
They may leave out [A] one down strum in it.
[C] And just let it ring longer.
Little things like that.
