Tell Her This is Delametri's latest single off their third and most intimate album to date, Twisted.
Since releasing the album in February, the band have toured the UK, Europe and America,
as well as fitting in shows with Bon Jovi, The Rolling Stones and R.E.M.
Recently they jetted back to the UK for a wee rest, so I took the liberty of inviting the writing duo
Justin Curry and Ian Harvey for a quick cup of [Ab] coffee.
[Bbm] Tell her not to go
[Ab] I [Bbm]
ain't holding [C] on no
[Ab] more
[Db] Tell her something in my mind freezes up from [Ab] time to time
[Gb]
[Abm]
[G] [Eb]
[Db] [G] [D]
I'm sure we've been touring for a year or a year and a [Abm] bit on every album
and we've more or less half the time been in Britain and the States.
[Ab] So we got back from [G] America a couple of weeks ago and [Ab] we thought,
oh how long have we been in America?
And we countered that a lot, we've been there for five months
[Eb] and [Abm] the year isn't even over yet, we're beginning to become [Eb] mid [Ab]-Atlantic,
which is a very very bad thing to be.
[Ebm] And we'll start talking in really [Bbm] confused [Db] accents and going,
yeah [F] man, that's really cool, Jimmy.
It'll just be people [Ab] won't speak to us ever again.
[C] Tell her not to cry
[Ab]
[Bbm] I just got scared, [C]
that's [Bbm] all
[Db] Tell her I'll be by her side
All she has [Ab] to do is call
[Eb] So America seems to have taken [Db] you to its bosom
Some of us do, yes
[Abm] Those with [F] bosoms have taken them to their bosoms
And they play the nice thing it does to [Ab] them
I read a [Gb] very funny quote from [Bm] you, I think it was, where was it?
[Db] I actually read it in the Guinness [B] book, but it was you talking about your fans
[Gb] and the [B] progress of the [Abm] band from being an indie act to a successful one
where [Db] you were describing Denimetry fans
so [Ab] if they're going to hold lighters up, they'll be [G] ironic lighters
I thought that was quite funny
Well sometimes they're not, but the great thing is sometimes in America
I mean they are here I think, [Eb] because people [Ab] understand where we're coming from
[G] but sometimes in America you get a couple [Ab] of rednecks at the bar who really do hold lighters up
and the best thing is now that people around them turn around and say
Put them out, stop that, they're not that kind of group
[D] It's got to be said, irony is not big in the States
because there's [B] no sense of humour that they've [D] ever really tuned into
The beginning to understand irony, you [G] know
How long have you actually perceived in the States as a band?
I mean I actually think you're an American band
A lot of Americans think, I mean people who are not that familiar with all the albums
will go, I thought you were American, you know, no
Glasgow is in Scotland, which is in [A] Europe
[Em]
I mean that's [G] understandable though, when I first started out I handled it
[A] So [Gbm]
[D]
[Gbm] [B]
[Bm] [D]
you're in London at the moment, [Am] you just told me you're [D] auditioning new guitars now
New guitars, yes, yes
[Am] David, well, I mean not unfortunately, David's [D] decided that he'd had [A] enough of [Am] life on the road
The road finally got to him, man
[D] So he's gone off home to [Am] start a family we believe
We believe he's trying to start a family at this very minute
Yes, [D] maybe as we speak
[Am] Which is good, I mean [D] I think he's just got to a point in his life where
he was feeling [Em] like an old man on the road
So he [Am] decided to get off and take his [D] time
Well obviously once you get through [Am] that, but up and coming plans, there's a new single out at this moment in time
[Dm] Is this [D] the last single from Twisted now?
No, I [E] don't know
How much longer is it going to go on?
See actually there's [Bm] still a song on the record which we'd have liked [Am] to have had as a single
which hasn't been a single yet
I don't know, it might not be a good idea
But we've made a video for another one
How much longer do you imagine, another six months and probably a Twisted?
Well, I mean it'd be good [Bb] to
It's America, [C] yeah
[B] [Am] I mean it'd be good to actually get to write some new songs
before we finish touring this time
rather than just, you know, you suddenly stop
and then you're sitting at home
with a, hmm
what do we do [D] now, write some songs
So [Am] I mean hopefully
if [Em] the record does keep going in [Am] America
we might be touring in [G] America next year
but it'll give us a chance to take a few months
So at least the [D] first half of 96 you'll still [E] be
twisting as they say
[B] Twisting the night away Probably
[E]
Well thanks for [G] coming in to talk to us
and sharing a coffee and a cup of tea
and best of luck with the auditions
Thanks, yeah we need that
