[Em] [C] [G]
I'm Diane Swan, singer, songwriter, performer sometimes.
I was born in Whangarei and started writing songs when I was about 15.
I was always really interested in music, completely.
It's a bit of a cliche but [Em] it's sort of saved my life [C] in quite a lot of ways.
The first [Fm] single, Birthday, got single of the week in the NME.
And also one time we were supporting Green Day and we started playing our set.
And after our set they kind of came bounding up to us and said that song Birthday is on
college radio in the States.
It's being played in San [G] Francisco all the [F#] time.
And nobody over there [A#] knows who you [Bm] are and I can't believe we found you.
[F#] And that was [A#] amazing [B] for a start.
We had [F#] no idea that it was on the radio over there.
[A#] [B] And the [F#] fact that they recognised it was kind of [D] exciting.
[A#] [F#] [A#] [B] [F#]
We [A#] toured lots.
[B] We [F#] played with Sleeper in Catatonia.
[A#m] We also [G#m] played with [F#] Oasis.
We played with them [A#] the night [B] that Kurt Cobain died, so [F#] I'll
always remember that.
[A#] We also [B] played with another [F#] band that would become very popular and [B] that was [F#] Radiohead.
We toured with them [A#] twice [G#m] throughout the UK.
[F#] They [E] also asked me before we toured with them if I would come into the studio when they
were recording The Bends because they had a song that they wanted [B] me to sing on.
[E] So I went in there having not [A] met any of [E] them.
I only talked to Ed really briefly.
So I went into the Bends session [A] and recorded [E] a song.
It's a duet with Tom and it's called How Can You Be Sure.
It was on the B-side of fake plastic trees and it also made its way onto the Japanese
version of The Bends.

ground

How [B]
can [A] you be a [B] smile and [F#m] say
[E] I [B] [E] want you [A] to be [E] sure
[B] [E] [A] [E] I want you
[A] I [E] want you [E] to be sure
[A] [E] [N] When we toured with Radiohead, they had just written a [F#] song called Street Spirit.
[G] At soundcheck, [A] Johnny came up and asked if anybody [Am] played keyboards in the [A] Julie Dolphin.
I said basically.
So [Am] he showed me the [A] part.
It was a pretty simple part but it was kind of pretty thrilling
to be on stage playing with Radiohead the first time they played Street Spirit.
