_ [G] Actually, my first instrument was drums, and my brother got [A] a guitar.
We got them the same year for Christmas, and I was just always just [Am] wanting to play drums [Em] so bad,
and my brother was [C] begging for a guitar [A] for years, you know?
[Am] And we finally got it, and I got [B] drums and he got guitar, and we were jamming [C] together.
And [G] like, you know, drums [A] wasn't coming that easily [Am] to me.
I was still having fun, I was trying, _ [A] but like my [G] brother would just get back there
and just boom, boom, [A] shh, throwing a beat down, and I was trying, I was trying, I was trying.
And so then I would sneak into [G] his room and grab his guitar, and that was just [Dm] so fun for me, and I loved [Am] that.
And eventually we kind of just were like, hey, let's just switch.
From [C] there, it was just like I just fell in love with the guitar.

_ [Am] _ _ [G] I find a guitar that sounds good, and I play it.
I don't need to [A] take it apart and add stuff and whatever.
It's [Am] like if it sounds good, it sounds good.
Don't mess with it, you know?
If it didn't sound good, then why'd [G] you get it? _ _ _
[A] The Reflex just stood out to me.
It's so easy to play.
It sounds [G] so like round and full and nice, and a very [A] bluesy sound,
which I always am looking for in guitars.
I love that round, bluesy, [C] soulful sound, and I get it with [D] this.
I [Am] got to design it, which was very cool, and I got my daughter's name on [G] the 12th fret, which was awesome.
But besides that, it [A] is stock.

_ _ Today we're going to [Em] play a song called Warming Sun.
It just really started [Gb] out with some basic chords,
and Jared just came up with a very cool, catchy melody to it, and it kind of just sprung from there.
The guys were messing around with guitar licks, and they came up with this little intro _ guitar lick,
and I was like, ooh, that's how it happened, and that was what's really catchy.
_ _ [G] Yeah, _ _ _ _ _ _ they came up with that, and I came up with the hook melody for that.
I just kind of walk around when I can't come up with lyrics,
and we got the verses pretty quick, but we couldn't come up with a hook.
We [Em] probably wrote _ ten hooks.
[E] We usually do write acoustically.
We started [C] as an acoustic act, just the three of us sitting on stools, me, JonJon, and Dustin.
[Ab] If you can [A] sing the whole entire song with just you and acoustic guitar, it's a good song.
[C] I can't say that [E] all of our songs are written that way, [Cm] because that's not true,
but some [E] songs come from [G] a drum beat, some songs [E] come from a sample, some songs come from [G] a movie, [A] Goonies.
_ We were trying [Gm] to do a Goonies sample [C] forever.
We thought we were going to make a [Dm] hip-hop song and do a [C] Goonies thing, but inspiration [Dm] comes from everywhere.

_ _ _ [C] Picking up slack, [D] you live [Dm] for it, [C] lady.
You never [Dm] have a good time and go.
[C] Taking it back, [Dm] you try for it [E] daily.
[Em] _ You only like [Dm] that old rock and roll.
[C] Say, for instance, you were a [D] punk band, and [C] you started your punk band when you were 16 [Dm] years old, and now [C] you're 32.
_ You're going [D] to have a different taste in music.
[Em] You're going to want to play different [D] stuff than punk, but you can't.
You're a punk [F] band, you're a fan, you go out with something else, [Em] your fan's going to be like,
Ah, [Dm] you sold out, yeah, yeah.
So it is nice to have that [Fm] option that we can play whatever we [E] want, and our fans are going to dig it, and [Dm] it's awesome.

_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [G]
It puts pressure on it, [C] though, also, because it's got to be good.
[F]
It always [Am] does sound like the Dirty Heads, but it [Gm] might be a little bit different.
But then that puts the pressure on, like, okay, [Dm] we're going to do this [G] very folky _ [Dm] _
ballad, you know, [G] say like [D] Chelsea.
Or Strike Jam.
Yeah, [Em] it still sounds like us, but [Dm] you still have to put [C] enough pride into it and make it [B] good to where it's [Dm] like,
Oh, we're [C] going to do a straight reggae song, and then a [E] straight punk song, and then some [C] straight, like, folk song.
[G] There's a fine line that you have [Em] to walk when you are a [G] band that mixes [Dm] genres, [C] because it can get very confusing.

_ _ [A] We left the troubles all [G] around us out.
You know, [C] we didn't hurt no [F] one.
_ _ [A] We lit the sky up, then we [G] burned it down.
_ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ Instead of, you know, hoping that this [A] could happen, now it kind of has.
[E] Now it's more of like, what [G] can we do to continue [F] to be able to do this, you know?
[A] We all are very close [E] in our band, and we keep [G] each other in check, you know?
And remember that this is fun, and we are [F] lucky to be able to do this.
So enjoy it.
