[Gb] Hey everybody, Max Rich [Eb] here, and that is the beginning of a Nora Jones [Bb] song called Don't Know Why.
This [G] song is a really unique one and an awesome piece on acoustic guitar.
And there's a couple reasons for that.
[F] One, we use a capo,
but we're not using our capo in like the traditional sense where [E] we would play
open chord shapes, you know C, G, all [Eb] those chord shapes higher up the [Gb] neck like
[Ebm] [Db] [Bb] We're not doing that, right?
We're playing sort of unusual chord shapes [C] mixed with finger picking,
so you're kind [Eb] of blending
open chords or
open [E] notes, I should say, with chords higher up on the neck.
For example, the [Bb] first one
we're using an [Eb] open note and
[Bb] three closed notes, [Gm] but way higher up on the neck of the guitar.
[F] And that allows for like a really sort of
unique approach to playing.
And you [Bb] combine that with the finger [Gb] picking element and the descending line,
and [G] [Fm] [Eb]
[D] it gives [C] you some really, really cool elements.
[Gb] Now this arrangement
we're doing is sort of like the original [D] arrangement that you'll find on the album.
There's a bunch of different ways of playing it without a capo, with a capo on another fret,
[Gb] but we're doing the original version.
[F] And so in today's lesson
we're going to talk about the main couple of parts of the song.
This, which is sort of like the verse and
the chorus, which happens later, which is similar, but not exactly the same.
[C] It doesn't have maybe
quite so many nuanced harmonic elements.
[Eb] But in any case,
what you'll need [D] is just a standard guitar, and you'll need some finger picking abilities,
and you'll need a capo on the [Bb] sixth fret.
And other than that,
