You know everybody always asks me, especially over in Europe,
Doug, you sure write some songs about Texas.
Well, that's very true.
I'm San Antone, born and raised.
And when I wrote this song, a lot of people think it's one of my most heartfelt songs.
I was kind of like a long-haired hippie refugee heading to the Haight-Ashbury,
along with Johnny Winter and Janis Joplin and Bob Skaggs
and all them people up there and Jerry Garcia and the boys,
met us with open arms.
And I was kind of missing home, really missing San Antone when I wrote this.
And I came up with some lyrics I think really came from the heart.
And I want to dedicate this to Eileen down there in New Brunswick, Texas.
We all love you and I know you love this song and we're going to give it to you, alright?
For everybody, here we go.
I left my home in Texas, headed to the Frisco [G] Bay.
Down in Latter-Hot-Tan, change is all the [C] way.
Now I'm up in Sausalito, [F#] [C] wondering where I ought [F] to be.
And I wonder [G] what happened [C] to that man inside, [G] who really [C] texted me.
[B] [C] Raining in Port Arthur, snowing in [G] Fort Worth town.
I used to go back to Farmer's Pool Hall, San Antone is my [C] hometown.
Now I'm up here on the Venice Beach edge, and the fog comes [F] rolling in.
And I wonder [G] what happened [C] to that man inside, [G] who really [C] texted his friends.
I'll [Dm] take it to you [G] Billy Boy.
