[E] [Ebm] Hi guys, [N] what's up?
I'm absolutely fantastic Tristan
Thanks, mate.
What have you guys been up to before the festival season?
We did a headline.
Oh, sorry headline tour
Did we support a despised icon for about 20 days in Europe in February then we did a headline tour of like?
France and [Em] Spain and Portugal [Eb] in April then some shows with comeback kid and not loose in April as well
So a lot of shows [G] this year so far
Since then just at home
[Gb] Writing music we're toying with the idea of [G] like whether we want to do [E] a full length or something a bit shorter Yeah
We're just writing solid songs and just [Ab] seeing it where we go with it
And yeah, [Cm] and it takes us a while to get an album together
You know we put a lot [Abm] of time into the music and stuff so [G] we're thinking it might work out better if we [Gb] released
[B] Something shorter, and then you know had an album the year after or whatever so any P
Yeah, do you know just [N] so we got new shit out new music?
But I think it's really cool that you know you were able to tour with like this likes of despised icon
But also come back here.
Do you think that's one of the appeals of malevolence is sound?
I wouldn't say it's one of the appeals, but I feel very lucky that we're able to sort of play to both markets
You know I don't think there's many bands at all look and so with like dying fetus one
You know one year then come back in the next all but [B] it's nice to be able to appeal to both crowds
[G] You know what where do [E] your kind of influences like musically or?
I'd say
With the music Llama God [F] hate breed hate breed crowbar quite obvious really if you listen to us like you know
All those bands mixed together with some like more hardcore beatdown influences [Abm] like nasty and shit nasty
You know they're like our friends, but really a band that we sort of followed
Growing up and when we you know when we were writing songs you think that hardcore [N] can be a little bit kind of constrained sometimes
When people people may call us like a hardcore band and metal band or [Gbm] end of the day man is fine
Who [C]
really [Ab] cares like just you write heavy fast music that people want to go crazy to them?
Then that's cool [Eb] like people doing their own thing is like [Cm] what we what [G] we do
Talk or can be constrained, but there's still a [N] lot of bands out there totally doing their own thing so yeah
Who cares you know that's [C] my that's my attitude
[Ab] What's [F] it like being you know [Gb] a hardcore metal [E] band from Sheffield
[Bb] Great Sheffield's a great place to play shows for us a lot of people [D] there
I mean obviously there's been some notable [Gb] bands in the past five ten years like in the [N] scene obviously while she sleeps bring me the
Horizon, but I wouldn't really say that's our scene so much
But like growing up and being around those people like while she sleeps
I think we played our first ever show with them when they were 11 when I was 11
Sorry, they were like 14 something like that 11.
Yeah, that was my level is his first show was with while she sleeps
And I mean whilst she sleeps when and anything then either like they were teenagers, too
Still cool.
Yeah, I mean, and it was also nice to see like they you know
They went out there and really did it like got pretty big in their scene like very quickly
And it was it was cool to see some lads that were like only a few you know from the local area like a few years
Older than those like touring Europe touring the states.
You know it's like inspiring
What for you is kind of like the quintessential elements of what makes up [A] malevolence most parts riffs much parts?
You know metal riffs
[D] some groove
mostly, you know
Focus [G] on the pit okay focus on the pit.
[N] You know be as heavy as possible
Not necessarily as heavy as possible just good vibes Yeah
You're like catchy hooks people like things that make me want to sing along and jump jump off the stage and just like just generally
Big fat heavy riffs, you [G] know, what do you guys think of the [E] scene in the UK at the moment [Gb] then?
I'm pretty sick like
[D] loads of bands coming through like
Like beat down by like hold our [A] truth killing it like loads of bands from Scotland like revulsion
They're doing they're doing their own [Cm] thing and just they're like bringing [E] their own sound to the [Eb] table
[D] Healthy time and good good turnouts good turnouts for underground shows.
I think
You look at like [G] festivals like outbreak [Dm] fest and they're like [C] thousands of kids just coming along to see like Yeah
[N]
We're talking about underground Hawkeye, so I wasn't entirely sure what you meant by seeing now
But but then you've a little look at [C] the metal senior downloads.
So it's like one of the biggest
No, yeah, so [N] like I think generally for heavy music UK is pretty hot time
Not enough small festivals though, you know
Not enough small festivals whatsoever.
Like we do [G] bring back Ghost Fest.
Yes, bring back those bring back Ghost Fest
You know
We do like smaller festivals two to three thousand people all the fucking time in Germany and there isn't really any like now
in England that are like
Well would say [Bb] I sound you know, they like all dayers or all days or [D] weekenders or semi outdoor events or whatever
You know, okay, and [Bm] finally you guys can answer this together or separately
But what does self [B]-supremacy mean to you guys?
[Em] The album the song the lyric
[F] [Eb] The song
The song was just about sort of like [N] having a lot of confidence in yourself.
Yeah, I mean self-supremacy like you
Supreme yeah, I mean that's that's that was not with my interpretation of [Eb] it when we're there
To go out
Rather than having like even you know, like negative metal [N] lyrics or like fantasy shit talking about fucking goblins or
Vikings or whatever like keep it real these download bands thing about something that's like, you know, I mean like motivation
[G] Motivational fun, you know [E] good vibe positive, you know, [N] this is the kind of music that makes you want to go on smashy day
Yeah, [G] just go on
Yeah, okay [D] on that positive note, thank you very much for having a chat cheers
