Hi gang, this is Toby Walker here for Dream Guitars, and I'm gonna show you a very exclusive lesson
I learned this from a man named James son Thomas who came out of Leland, Mississippi
When I went into James's house, and we sat down right there in his living room
He showed me this song and I'm gonna show it to you the way I was shown
So what James said see that that [E] the first chord was going to be this is e7 chord now
I knew the e7 chord and you could get an e7 chord
Like that just your first finger [A] on that G [E] sharp and then your second finger on that B note
So then the next chord that James showed me [A] was this one
Pretty sounding chord is what it was just the first finger moving up [B] to the third string up in the second fret and your third
Finger on the [G#m] fifth string at [A] the fourth fret
That's pretty chord.
You know then James showed me this chord
Just take those two fingers and you [E] move it up one fret and you get this I
Know I know I feel the same way.
It's it's just [G] a horrible sounding chord, and I said [A] to James said what?
What is that chord name?
He said I don't know I said that was good enough for me, so you [E] got those
You'll [A] see what's gonna happen
[E] [Bm] Those are three chords.
That's around the e and we'll get [G] to that [N] now
He said you want to play an a chord you know he says specifically in a flat
So I said well a flat that would be here.
He says no.
No you put your finger over here
That looks like an a chord to me and James says no.
That's an a flat chord
I said well, why do you call that an a flat and he said because his fingers flat on the fingerboard?
I'm not gonna argue with this guy.
Okay.
He had a pistol on the side of his bed
We don't argue with somebody with that so I get your face.
It's really an a chord, okay?
So we won't tell anybody there's an a chord you're gonna take your first finger
You just bar it on that fourth string you can get the third string in there at the [A] second fret
And I'm gonna be [B] playing that with [E] my my thumb coming down on the fifth [A] and fourth string
Adding my third finger
Like that and [Bm] then he gave me the other chord and this other chord was one of these things
That's
Right I did not ask him the name of this chord either, but it's just a funky sounding chord
It's like a b7 chord what you're gonna
Do is you can take your third finger put it on the first string at the second fret?
Take your second finger put it on the third string at the second fret and then you can wrap your thumb around
The neck you're gonna grab it like a [E] baseball bat [G#] and grab the top these two strings [F#] here
[B]
Okay, don't [F] worry about the second [F#m] string being muted.
That's okay.
He didn't worry about that and don't worry about the fourth string [D] being in
Funky sounding chord so he said [Am] all right now watch how I put [E] all this together
[A] [A#] Works [A] [E]
[A] [E] [A] [E] I thought
[A] [E] He did [A] that about four [E] times
[A] And he [E] goes to the a [A] chord
He
[E] [A]
[E] [A] [E] [A]
[E] [F#m] [G] [D] goes to the b7 [F#m]
chord [A] A7
[E] [G] So [A]
[G] [E] [F#m] he that was the way he played a song called 61 highway
So I'm gonna show you how we put all this together we get [E] on that e7 chord
And we're just strumming it [G#] down [E] twice
I'm kind of stopping
Stopping the strings a little bit
[A] [E]
[F#] You [E] do that one slow, [D] it's just you'll chase every [G] neighbor away from [E] you, but you do it
[A]
[E] You [A] [E] get that little [A] move it going
[E] Do [A] that [N] four times and you go to your a chord you just strumming down here
I'm just strumming down on the fifth [A] and fourth string
You could add your pinky like this
By [F#m]
[A#] adding your pinky up to [F] the fifth fret and coming [E] down to the fourth then you go [A] back.
We'll hear a little slow
[F#m] [A] You hear I'm kind of stopping that fourth string from ringing [E] by just
[F#] Just [G] [F#] picking up your pinky ever [E] so slightly fingers
[F#] [G] When
[F#] you put in the [A] fifth string
[F#m] Now [A]
you go back to that E [E] shape [A] [E] that twice
[A] [E] Now
[A] [E] you [A] doing your beat [D] just [F#m] strum that beat
Eight [B] beats one two three four one two three
[F#m] [A]
[E] a7
Gonna do [D] [A] [G]
[E] that little lick now what how here's how we do that I'm gonna hit the sixth string first
Then I'm gonna hammer [B] the fourth string at the [D] second fret
[E] [D] [E] twice [D] and
I'm gonna hit that open fourth [E] string
[D] So [A] [G#] we have [D] fourth string
[G] fifth string [B] second fret [A] open
[D]
[A] [B] now you get
this perfect guitar for this [G] is just
[E] That you felt that didn't you through the camera you felt [G] that punch it in the gutter
[Em] That's the kind of sound you want you want to get that [G] load [E] so yet
[D] And [A] [G] [E]
[B] that's how you do 61 highway
Now I did say that was highway six or 61 highway, and I did this and you thought that was the end of it
What didn't you well?
That's what I [N] thought when James was teaching me this tune
But then when I figured I had all that James said I haven't shown you my secret lick
I'm like well.
What's the secret lick he says you know it.
I'll wink when I do it
Okay, you wink.
I'll [E] catch it see what?
[A] [E] [A] [E]
[A] [D] [Em] [E] [A]
[A#] [F#m] [G] [E] [A]
[A#] [A] [A] 61 highway run right through
[E] [A] [A#]
[A] [Em] [E] [A] [A#]
[A] [Em] [E] [A] [E] It makes it makes the whole song okay, so
[A] Come [E] [A] [A#] down once [A] when you come down to that second fret [Em] and then go
[E] [A] [A#]
[A] [Em] oh, I [E] forgot you had a wink when you do it
[A] [E] [A] [G] [E]
[A] [E]

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [E] _ _ [A] _
_ [E] _ _ [A] _ _ [E] _ _ [A] _
_ [E] _ [F#m] _ [G] [D] goes to the b7 [F#m] _

_ _ _ [E] _ [G] So _ [A] _
_ [G] _ [E] _ _ [F#m] _ _ he that was the way he played a song called 61 highway
So I'm gonna show you how we put all this together we get [E] on that e7 chord
_ And we're just strumming it [G#] down [E] twice
I'm kind of stopping
_ _ Stopping the strings a little bit
_ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ [E] _
_ _ [F#] You [E] do that one slow, [D] it's just you'll chase every [G] neighbor away from [E] you, but you do it
[A] _
[E] You _ _ [A] _ [E] get that little [A] move it going
[E] _ Do [A] that [N] four times and you go to your a chord you just strumming down here
I'm just strumming down on the fifth [A] and fourth string
_ You _ _ could add your pinky like this
_ By [F#m] _ _
[A#] adding your pinky up to [F] the fifth fret and coming [E] down to the fourth then you go [A] back.
We'll hear a little slow
_ [F#m] _ _ [A] You hear I'm kind of stopping that fourth string from ringing [E] by just
_ [F#] Just _ [G] _ [F#] picking up your pinky ever [E] so slightly fingers
[F#] _ [G] When _
[F#] you put in the [A] fifth string
_ [F#m] Now _ [A] _
_ _ you go back to that E [E] shape _ [A] _ [E] that twice
[A] _ [E] Now _
[A] _ _ [E] you [A] doing your beat [D] just [F#m] strum that beat
_ _ _ _ Eight [B] _ _ beats one two three four one two three
[F#m] _ _ [A] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [E] _ a7
Gonna do [D] _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ [G] _
[E] _ that little lick now what how here's how we do that I'm gonna hit the sixth string first
Then I'm gonna hammer [B] the fourth string at the [D] second fret
[E] _ [D] _ [E] twice [D] _ and
_ I'm gonna hit that open fourth [E] string
[D] So _ _ _ [A] _ [G#] we have [D] fourth string
[G] fifth string [B] second fret [A] open
