[F#m] Check it out, [Bm] 1, 2.
Hey [D] yo, hey yo, I [F#m] came a long way since back in [D] the day
From a [F#m] teenager trying to make it rap in [D] this way
Ever since I [F#m] was a kid I had something to say
[Bm] Rocking mics was a dream I didn't care about, [D] hey
I sacrificed [F#m] late nights and going out with [D] my friends
Just to stay [F#m] home alone with my pad and my [D] pen
Had my eyes on [F#m] my pride, my mind on my goal
[Bm] As I carved these rhymes out with my heart and [D] my soul
I didn't have a [F#m] CD, all I had was [D] a tape
On the dole through [F#m] my flow was my only escape
From a world where they didn't wanna see me prevail
Don't [Bm] wanna see me take it all, they'd rather see me [D] fail It's like
[F#m] I was down [D] and out, [F#m] _ [D] struggling
_ [F#m] _
Wondered how [B] I'm gonna make [D] it through
_ [F#m] I got [D] a dream, [F#m] _ [D] holding on
[F#m] I can't let go, [Bm] cause I gotta make it [D] come true
Hey yo, I [F#m] got a dream to make it big in New [D] York
Give up the [F#m] drugs and alcohol, I [D] didn't wanna distort
My [F#m] vision to be living life to the full
[Bm] And I would've made it if it wasn't for [D] you
You picked me up [F#m] every time that I fell
[D] When I was going through hell, [F#m] you told me that I would [D] prevail
You said I [F#m] had exactly what it took to be great
That [Bm] I was young and in the future what a man I would [D] make
It's like, you [F#m] saw something in me I couldn't [D] see
You said I would [F#m] succeed and be anything [D] I wanted to be
I'm [F#m] 23 and I just wanna be me
[Bm] Wanna be free, wanna be everything I can [D] be
But I don't have [F#m] many choices, can't afford to [D] be wrong
All I do [F#m] is try to stay true to [D] the words in my song
[F#m] Just don't hesitate and wait too long
Cause [Bm] like a dream when you wake up and it's gone
[D] It's gone
[F#m] I was down [D] and out, [F#m] _ [D] struggling
_ [F#m] _
Wondered how [Bm] I'm gonna make [D] it through
I got [F#m] _
[D] a dream, [F#m] holding [D] on
[F#m] I can't let go, cause [Bm] I gotta make it come true
[D] It was a sunny [F#m] day and we were feeling [D] high
Jamming the song [F#m] underneath a baby blue [D] sky
Thinking back in the [F#m] time when we were so poor
Remember [Bm] the kids used to laugh at the clothes we [D] wore
We always knew one [F#m] day that things were gonna [D] change
And from that day God [F#m] was never gonna be the [D] same
I went to sleep that [F#m] night, I dreamt I touched the sky
And ever [Bm] since I've been trying to keep my dream [D] alive
So when you see the [F#m] scribe, dropping the ill of [D] rhyme
Defining how I'm [F#m] living mine in this day and [D] time
I'm working 9 to [F#m] 5, I'm slaving over beat
It's [Bm] hard work living the dream I hardly ever [D] sleep
I'm in the rhythm [F#m] deep, y'all just trying to do my [D] thing
It's funny when you're [F#m] shining, people hate to see the [D] gleam
No matter what they [F#m] say, keep on doing what you do
And don't give up cause only you can make that dream come [D] true It's like
[F#m] I was down [D] and out, [F#m] struggling
