Dua Lipa Explains Releasing Album Early, Following Leak | FULL INTERVIEW | Capital chords
Start Jamming...
Good morning and joining us from the safe distance of FaceTime, Alay, whose new song
we're blasting out and we're absolutely loving it, especially in a time like this as well.
She's on FaceTime, Dua Lipa!
Hi!
Dua, how are you?
Good, I guess taking into consideration what's going on.
Yeah, now a lot has changed since the last time we saw each other.
I saw you at the Global
Awards.
Everyone there together, having drinks, you know, having a good time.
And now obviously
the whole world, the UK, it's completely changed.
It is a strange time.
I mean, what are your
genuine thoughts on the whole situation?
It's definitely quite a confusing and unsettling time.
Only because I guess it's more like
the unknown.
That's the confusing thing.
We don't really know how long this is going to
last.
Obviously, there's a lot of people that are being affected by it and a lot of people
are suffering.
And I think, you know, my duty really is to try and get as many people as
possible, you know, just to stay inside now that we finally have the lockdown kind of in place.
Yeah.
That people actually abide by the rules.
And I think the quicker we all decide to stay
indoors and I know it's a lot harder for some people than it is for others.
I completely
understand.
It's just this, I feel like we can really flatten the curve and kind of put
a stop to this virus if we do all collectively stay indoors.
It is really confusing.
It is really tough.
And, you know, and there's a lot of mixed
messages sometimes going around, especially when you live in the world of the Internet
and there's a lot of different things.
Now, are you staying with your family or are you
isolated away from them?
I'm isolated away from them, but I'm with my boyfriend.
OK.
[Eb] And you're in London.
Were you in [B] London when the lockdown was enforced?
So you weren't
having to move around because a couple of artists had to fly either back home or fly
out to [G] the States.
We were trying to go back to the States, but it was just before the travel ban had kind
of gone into place.
So it was like [Eb] the day we were meant to fly was the day that the
travel ban went [D] into action.
[E] So ended up staying.
But I had this whole drama where my apartment
flooded when I got back from Australia.
So like I got back off a 24 hour flight, get
into my apartment and I'm like, what is that sound?
And my neighbor upstairs had been having
like [N] works or renovations and it had been dripping for like two weeks.
So when I got
back, I had to basically I have to like renovate the apartment.
So we're just in an Airbnb.
Oh, mate.
Well, listen, I mean, I know everything has been a bit mad, but in amongst it, Twitter
has shown its true force.
And I absolutely love I still think one of my favorite memes
includes you and includes this.
[E] Don't show up.
[A] Don't [B] come out.
[Abm] That is the best thing ever.
Now, what have you made of all of the memes of yourself telling
people to not come out?
I feel like just the memes in general at this time have been for some reason, really, really
funny.
I don't know if I've just been laughing so much because of nervous laughter and I'm [D] just like,
Raging hilarious.
[N] Yeah, you know, I think, again, another thing is we have to try and make light of the situation.
The more we can keep people laughing and the more we can try to keep spirits high and take
the reality of how upsetting this actually is and how difficult it is for some people.
You know, sometimes we have to look at those memes and laugh a little bit and try and find
the lightheartedness in it all, especially because we're all kind of in it together.
So definitely, definitely.
And you know what?
We're also looking forward to 2021, which
is just going to be the most epic year.
It will be the most epic year ever.
Now, obviously,
you must have been gutted when when Glastonbury was postponed.
But next year, you're still
going to be there.
I mean, yes, if they'll still have me.
They will, of course they will.
I tell you what we're all happy about, Dua, is that obviously a lot of artists [E] have delayed
the release of their album.
Lady Gaga's done that.
But you've not only given us a new single,
Break My Heart, you've given us a new album, Future Nostalgia.
[N] How come you've released all this?
Well, I was toying with the idea of moving my album, especially during this time.
I was
very confused and conflicted.
And I was like, I don't know if it really is the right time
to put something out.
And also, I really set off when I was making this album to really
try and create a world around it and be able to take some time to really make some fun
visuals.
And I feel like now, because everything's been put to a stop, it kind of made me rethink.
But then I also remember the reason why I made this record was to get away from any
anxiety or any pressures of making a second album.
And I made it with so much love and
I had so much fun making it and I made it with my friends and it just made me happy
and made me want to dance.
And I was like, maybe I'm just, you know, maybe the time is
to put it out now.
And maybe it's, you know, I'd be doing like a disservice holding it
back when maybe now is the time we need music.
I must say, all the songs that you've put out so far are absolute bangers.
We've spoken
to a lot of artists who have obviously been releasing new music during this time as well.
And they said it's been quite nice to obviously jump up on Instagram.
So I know Wednesday
night as well, you did a live stream with Miley Cyrus.
Are you going to be doing more
of that stuff, talking to your fans?
Yeah, I mean, live streaming has been a newfound thing for me.
I only did my second ever one
like earlier this week where I was just kind of talking about the album and deciding to
put it out earlier.
And then I did one with Miley and today I'm going to do like a YouTube
live stream track by track Q&A, kind of going through all the songs, talking about them,
answering questions, just having a little bit of a laugh and giving everyone kind of
the first listen.
So I'm going to do that.
That's sick.
That's going to be so cool.
Now, I chatted to Perry Edwards from Little Bix
yesterday, and she's obviously isolating as well.
Now, we're all kind of in this same
group, right?
All being in relationships.
I mean, myself, I'm isolated with my missus.
Sonny's isolated with his missus.
Perry's isolated with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Now,
obviously, you said there yourself, you're isolated with your boyfriend.
What would you
say is the toughest part of being isolated with someone?
Any tips of isolating in a couple?
You know, when you play Uno, and [E] you win relentlessly, you've got to make sure to let them win.
Oh, okay.
