Mark Lucas for nstuffmusic [N].com. Today we have a new Duesenberg guitar called the Star Player
Special.
And this is a little different, somewhat different actually, than the ones that we
have shown in previous videos in that this is a bolt-on neck instrument.
Four bolts here,
very securely bolted I might add.
We have Duesenberg tuning gears.
This is a maple neck,
very straight grain [Bm] maple neck.
Rosewood fingerboard.
And the body is made of alder, and this particular
color is Dakota Red.
We have a Grand Vintage and a Crunchbucker, Humbucker, that are made
by Duesenberg.
Stopped tailpiece, stopped bridge.
And one of the interesting things
about the guitar is that there's a very ingenious tone control.
So here's our neck [F] pickup.
[G] [C]
Now
if we roll this down, actually [E] all the way up I should say, it emulates, actually becomes
a single [Dm] coil sounding pickup.
[Am]
And then right in the middle, [Dm] it's Humbucker.
[Am] [E] And then all
the way down, the tone control goes all the way down.
[Am] [A]
[D] And then you can, [Am] [Em] [Am] [D]
[A] [Dm] and that tone
control works all the way up to that center space where it becomes a Humbucker.
So, that's
our neck pickup.
Here's both [Am] pickups.
[D] [A] [Em] [F]
And then we'll put that in Humbucking, [Bb] [C] [Bbm]
[G] [Bb] and then
the tone control all the way down.
[Am] Do [E] the same thing on the back pickup.
Here's the
back [Em] pickup in single coil.
[Eb] [G] Humbucking, [Bb]
and then all the way down.
[G]
[N] And these are really, really nice sounding pickups.
They really have refined that sort
of vintage Filter-Tron, Gretsch type of pickup sound.
I really like how they sound.
So, onto
our overdrive sounds.
Today we're using a TC Electronic Flashback Delay and a Visual
Sound Double Treble pedal.
So here's our back pickup, our bridge pickup, all the way in
single coil.
[Am] [D] [Am] And
[A] then in [Am] Humbucking.
[A] So here we have both pickups [G] overdriven in [Em] single
coil mode.
[Bm] [Am] [A]
[D] [A] [D] [A]
[C] Then [Am] in Humbucking.
Then [G] [Am] [D]
[F] [Am] [E] [A]
[Em] we'll go to the neck, single coil.
[Fm] [Bb] [Eb]
[Bb]
[G] Then [A] to Humbuck.
[Bbm] [Eb]
[C] [Bbm] [Eb] [Db] [Bb] [Bb]
So there you have it, the Duesenberg Starplayer Special.
