Hi, it's Rhys from Cranberry Music here and today we're checking out the Jusenberg Starplayer TV [A] Deluxe.

[A] [G] [D]
[Am] This particular model is in black [A#] and it's a [G] beautiful guitar, part of the [Am] Starplayer range from our friends at Jusenberg.
[G] Now, [F] compared to a [D] regular Starplayer, this one differs quite a bit.
And so what we [A] have here is some of the things that you [D] find on the Starplayer line-up, like a semi-hollow body with a centre [A] block.
[B] This is [D] actually hollow on both sides, [Am] rather than just on one.
Two F-holes, obviously, a transparent [D] pickguard.
It has a laminated [Am] spruce top [G] with laminated maple back [F#] and sides.
[F] [D] A maple neck, [Am] rosewood fingerboard.
[Em] It also [G] features Jusenberg's [Am] own design of hardware.
So they've got their three-step design that carries on through the whole range.
On the locking Z [D] tuners, through to [A] all the knobs and that kind of thing.
It's a nice little touch.
[G] Also [D] features Jusenberg's own design radiator tremolo.
Gets [A] its name from [G] that, obviously.
It stays [F#] in tune really well and it's really easy to restring.
[A] It features [G] a grand vintage [D] humbucker in the bridge and a D [C]-tron pickup [F#m] in the [D] neck there.
A humbucker in the neck [G] there, both Jusenberg's own design.
[C] Electronics-wise, we've got a [D] master volume here.
[A] [D] [C] It acts as a [F#m] master volume too.
A three-way [F#] pickup selector [F#m] in the back here.
[C] [D] And we've also got something really interesting happening with [A] the tone knobs here.
[G] Let me explain those.
These are what Jusenberg call [D] Vari [A]-Tone, or [G] variation on the tone.
If we just start out on the neck pickup [A] here, which sounds like so.
If we wind the tone all the way back, it acts as a normal tone knob would.
[G] When you wind it up, once you get about halfway, there's a little notch that you can feel.
A [A] little notch there.
[Em] And that's the tone wide open.
And then after that, what happens [F#] is it acts as a little bit of a filter and boosts some frequencies and cuts other [E] frequencies.
[A] So, let's just hear it.
[E]
Same thing with [A] the bridge pickup now.
So, it acts as a tone knob.
Wind up to the notch and then past the notch.
Which is a really cool feature because if you're just rocking out doing some rhythm on [G] the bridge pickup,
[D] [Am] [G] but you want to cut a little bit more, all you need to do is wind that tone knob up.
[A] [G] And [Em] [A] [G]
you can cut through the mix a little bit more.
[B] And it gives you a whole host of different options now.
So, rather than just having one pickup, middle position, the other pickup, we've got all these tone knob variations.
So, it opens up the tonal possibilities on this guitar immensely.
Plugged into the Jusenberg Berlin 40 watt head here.
I've just got a Keeley 1962 for some dirt and a Cavendish Delay Reverb for a little bit of space.
Starting out on the [E] neck pickup now.
[A] [E] [D] [E]
[A]
[E]
And now with both pickups.
[A] [E]
And now, over to the bridge pickup.
[B] [E] [A]
[E] [A] [E]
[B] [A] [E]
[Em] One thing that I really love about Jusenberg pickups is how they clean up when you're running a bit of dirt and that kind of thing.
And you roll the volume back, they really clean up and retain a lot of their clarity and a lot of their character.
What I'm going to do here, I've just got the 1962 drive on and a little bit of delay.
Just play a few chords, winding through a few of the pickups, different volumes and that kind of thing.
Just so you can get an idea of how these pickups work [D] and that kind of thing.
So, here we go.
[C] [G]
[D] [C]
[G] [D]
[Bm] [C] [G]
[E] So, that was moving through.
Now onto [D] the neck pickup.
[C]
[G]
[D]
So, there you have it.
That's the Jusenberg Starplayer TV Deluxe in black.
