Duffy - Mercy (Last.fm Sessions) chords
Start Jamming...
Mercy really happened by contrived coincidence, I like to call it.
I had signed a big record deal.
I was an indie artist at that point.
I had a bunch of songs that were beautiful.
But when I signed to Universal Music, I knew I had to play the game.
I knew that I was allowed to exploit my pop sensibility.
And that's exactly what I did.
And the record was finished, Rockfury was finished, and I met a guy who lived on the
same street as me.
He was moving out of a house that I was moving into.
And I told him I was a singer, and he said he was a producer, songwriter.
And I went down to his studio, literally when Rockfury was finished, and we wrote Mercy.
Just like that.
And Stepping Stone in about six weeks.
And I remember going into my management company very nervous, because this was away from the
direction in which they had developed me in.
And I knew exactly what I was doing.
And I didn't really give them much choice.
And I handed them these two songs and said, you know, I think we should add this to the record.
And so I definitely put a spin on myself.
But I did know what I was doing.
And it was very naughty.
Because it changed, it moved the goalposts.
[G]
I'm so sorry for [Dm] [C] [G]
you.
But I've got to stay true.
My mind's got me off my knees.
I'm stumbling in place.
I [Ebm] don't know what [Dm] this is, but you got [C] [G]
me.
I thought [Dm] you knew, [D] but you do [C] it.
[G] I am.
[C] You've got me begging [G] you for mercy.
Why won't you release me?
You've got me.
[C] [C] [G] Don't you release me.
[Gm] I said [Dm] release.
[C] [G] May I am.
How you think will be something.
[Gm]
I [G] need a man who can say [Gm] yes [G] I.
[D] But you've got [C] [G] like you knew [Gm] you will.
[D] [C] [Gm] I [F] am.
[C] You've got [G] me begging you for mercy.
Why won't you release me?
[C] Why [G] won't you release me?
[Gm]
[Dm] [C] [G] You've got me.
May I am.
One more time.
[N] Begging you for mercy.
Why won't you release me?
I'm begging you for mercy.
I'm begging.
[G] You've got me begging.
Begging you for mercy.
