Hello, this is Jack Ferguson of Appalachian Flutes and Dalsimers.
I'm going to do a short video on how to tune a standard four-string dalsimer
in the tuning mode DAD.
I have it tuned now out of tune, as you [N] can tell,
and I'm using a phone app on my iPhone,
which I like better than the clip-ons.
Clip-ons have their use as well, but this is good for tuning.
So, I've got it tuned a little out.
I need to go ahead now and get it in tune
using the tuners on the head of my dalsimer for fine tuning.
You need to make sure first, before you start tuning or turning the strings,
that you test and see where each string is set
so that [F] you don't end up going too far and popping a string.
So, let's start now with the top melody string, which is D4.
The second melody string is the same, D4.
The middle string is A3, and the bass string [D] is D3.
[B] So, now let's start with the melody string.
It says tune up, and you'll see it start to turn [D] green as it's in tune.
It says got it.
All right, now the second melody string.
[Bb]
[D]
They're both melody strings together, and they're in tune.
[E] The middle string, which is A3,
[A]
and there you have A3.
[D] And the bass string, which is D3, and it happened [F] to be right in tune.
I'm going to take it off just a bit and [D] bring it back.
And there you have it.
Perfectly tuned dalsimer.
