Hi everyone!
Someone requested I make a tutorial video for the way I play duvet, and I thought I might share this on YouTube because it might be useful to some more people.
This is gonna be like probably the simplest version of this song you can play.
The original version has like a fingerpicking solo and a slide guitar solo.
We're gonna cover none of that, and instead we're just gonna play three chords.
For this song you'll need just three chords.
Those chords are G, B minor, and E minor.
Except, not quite.
Let's get into that.
Okay, so your G chord is gonna be kind of in the shape of a [G] bar chord.
You're gonna start with your index finger on the low E string 3rd [F] fret,
[D] A string [Ab] 5th fret, [G] D string 5th fret, and your G string 4th fret.
That's the same shape you would make if you're playing a G major bar chord,
but instead of barring across the remaining strings like [B] this,
we're gonna leave those top two strings open.
[E] [G] So we end up with this chord,
which would really be called something like, I guess, an E minor 7 over G,
or a G major add 6, or add 13.
We don't need any of that terminology, we'll just call it a G chord for sake of simplicity.
So there's your G chord, your kind of weird G chord.
So for the second chord, the B minor chord, what you're gonna do is take that G chord shape,
[E] move [Bm] it up one string and down one fret,
so you end up with A string 2nd fret, D string 4th fret, G string 4th fret, B string 3rd fret,
and you're gonna leave that top E string open again.
[E]
[Bm] [E] And you end up with a nice B minor add 11.
We'll just call it a B minor again for [Bm] simplicity.
Chord number 3, the final chord, it's the simplest chord, it's a plain open E minor chord.
That's [E] A string 2nd fret, D string 2nd fret, everything else wide open.
[Em] Alright, so we've got our G chord, [Bm] B minor, [Em] and E minor.
We've got our inventory of 3 chords, now let's move on to putting those together.
So the beginning of this song launches straight into the verse.
The chord progression for the verse is G, [Bm] B minor, [Em] E minor, [Bm] back to B minor.
[G] You're gonna play one bar of each chord.
2, [Em] 3, 4, B minor, 2, 3, 4, E minor, 2, 3, [Bm] 4, B minor, 2, 3, [G] 4, G.
[Bm] [Em]
[Bm] [G] [Bm]
[Em] [Bm] And you [G] don't seem to [Bm] understand, a [Em] genius seems an honest [Bm] man.
[Em] And so on and so forth.
Our next section is the chorus, which is the same 3 chords in a different order.
E minor, [Bm] [G] B minor, G.
[Em] The rhythm for the chorus is 1, 2, [Bm] 3, [G] 4, and 2, [Em] 3, 4, 1, [Bm] 2, [G] 3, 4, and 2, [Em] 3, 4, E minor, [Bm] E [G] minor, G, 2, [Em] 3, 4.
[Bm] [G]
[Em] [Bm] I'm falling, [G] I am [Em] failing, I am [Bm] drowning, help me [G] to breathe.
[Em] So we've got the verse and chorus down.
That leads us to the bridge.
Now the first bridge section is that solo section that we're not gonna cover.
I just completely omit that section and I would suggest doing the same if you're wanting to play the simple version.
If you want to play the chords with it, I know the chords under the part where the slide guitar solo comes in are E minor, B minor, which is the same as the second bridge, so let's just cover that all together.
This is like the most simple section of the song.
It's 2 bars of E minor [Bm] and [Em] 2 bars of B minor.
So, E minor, 2, [Bm] 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, E minor, 2, 3, 4, [G] 1, 2, 3, [Em] 4, E minor, [Bm] B minor, [Em] E minor, [Bm] B minor.
[Em]
[Bm] [Em]
[Bm] And
[Em] [G] back into the chorus we go.
We'll end with that chorus, just ending on that last G chord there.
And that's the entire song.
Hope this was useful to you and I [N] will speak to
