Dwight Yoakam - I Sang Dixie chords

I asked Dwight myself to sing this song because I like it so much.
It's a song that he wrote and in fact it was number one after
Streets of Bakersfield and I think it's a great song and I know you heard it
but I don't know if you heard it quite like [Gb] this.
It's just him and his guitar
and that's the way I asked him to do [E] it.
[A] It's called Dixie.
[E] Now, you need to listen really close to the words because
it's really a magnificent song.
Dwight, ready.
Thank you, Buck.
Actually, I wrote this after I'd been in L.A. a few years
and [N] I'd been out there and my brother had come out to visit and we were wandering around
Hollywood one night and saw some stuff go on that kind of
disturbed both of us and a week or so later I [E] was home and I started writing this
and it turned out to be a pretty good one for me.
Number one's pretty good.
I sang Dixie
as he died
People just walked on by
as I cried
[Ab] The bottle [A] had a red pin
above his red-ribbed [E] pride
So I sang Dixie
[B]
as [E] he died
He said way down he under in the land [Ab] of cotton
[A] Old times they're as rotten as [E] they are
On this damned old L.A. [B] street
[E] Then he drew a dying [Gb] [Ab] breath
[A] And laid his head against my chest
[E] Please Lord take [B] his soul
Back [E] home to Dixie
[G] [E] I sang Dixie
as he died
People just walked on by
as I cried
The [G] bottle [A] had a red pin
above his red [E]-ribbed pride
So I sang Dixie
[B]
[E] as he died
He said listen to me son while you still [G] [E] can
[A] Run back home to that southern land don't you [E] see
What life here has done [B] to me
[E] Then he closed those old gray [G] [A] eyes
And fell down against my side
No more [E] pain
Now he's [B] safe back home [E] to Dixie
[G] [E] I sang Dixie
as he died
People just walked on by
as I cried
The [Ab] bottle had [A] a red pin above his red-ribbed [E] pride
So I sang Dixie
[B]
as [E] he died
I sang Dixie
[B]
as he [A] died
The [E] [B]
[E] [Gb] White is Your Song
Great job, Mark.
[Em] [N] What a great job.
