_ [G] _ Lots of great stuff to unpack here the [D] iconic intro guitar lead those open [E] chords and amazing [G] rhythm
This is Pink Floyd's wish you were [A] here.
And in this [D] video, I'm gonna show you how to play it _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [A] _ _ Welcome back to relax learn guitar.
I'm [B] Kevin.
This is Maggie Mae
Checking out the treats.
[Ebm] She loves [D] YouTube video day
[A] We are taking on a little Pink Floyd wish you were here and why I think he's behind the [B] camera
_ Let's get started on this great song
_ Love Pink Floyd.
This is a great tune.
It's one that's totally in your reach
You might [E] think David Gilmour no way for a beginner, but it's actually very doable sounds great on the acoustic guitar, too
So let's talk about this intro where we're gonna cover.
There's a lot of great kind of [N] leads happening this song
This is kind of the intro one and the one people are probably most familiar [A] with
So it's all [G] gonna be based around [A] a G shape
A couple helpful hints as we go through this the [A] and G shape using a [G] four finger G chord
This is how I kind of think about how this lick is is made up and the cool thing is we're going [D] to
_ leave our
ring finger
This third string second or second [B] string third fret and our pinky finger [Ab] on the first string third fret
They're gonna kind [Gm] of stay planted there for this
[E] Entire kind of intro [G] phase [F] here.
We're gonna break it down to three parts part one.
It's this [A] I
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
Love [Am] that.
So that's kind of [Eb] the part one.
Look so [G] what [C] is going on there?
This all starts with a hammer on this the way I think about this lick is [D] there are some
Individual notes and [A] then we're gonna do [G] go back to that planted ring and pinky [Eb] for a little bit of a [A] strum pattern
[E] So this starts [D] with an open fifth [A] string
[B] Hammer down with your index finger onto the second fret of [A] the fifth string
So make sure you get [A] that open first and [B] hammer down
Then you have an [Bb] open fourth string
[D] _ _ fourth string with [E] index finger and
_ [G] Now we're already in [Dm] place with our middle and pinky here
Leave that index [Db] down on that fourth string second fret [Eb] and we're gonna do [G] a down down up up down
after the lick
Then we're gonna walk [E] down with an open third string
_ _ fourth string [E] second fret
fourth string open [D] _ and then a down up [D] down on _ that ring and index _
So when you [A] put that all together you get [A] this
_ _ [G] _
down down up up down
_ [D] _ _
down up down
Now it's [G] gonna repeat.
There's one small [D] difference before you [C] begin [E] the lick again
We're gonna [Eb] add in our middle finger [E] here on the sixth string [G] third fret
[A] _ _ [E] _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
_ [D] _ _ _ _ _ [G] That's part one.

[A] So part two sounds like [G] this _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [A] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
Very similar [F] to part one
we're gonna start here on the sixth string third fret [Bb] with our middle finger and
That works [G] into that kind of recurring lick happening here with that hammer on
_ [E] _
So that's all the same then you're gonna leave that ring and pinky [B] down.
We're just doing it down up [G] down
_ _ We're gonna walk [Bb] down.
We're gonna start here on the fourth fret or fourth [E] string second fret
_ fourth string [D] open
_ fifth string second [B] fret
fifth string [A] open _ _
Into that shape of that chord again for some strumming and this time we do the [G] down down up up down _ _
then that repeats
_ [E] _ _ [G] down up down
_ _ [A] _ _ [D] down down up up down and then the last [A] part _ _
[G] _ _ _ [E] Really satisfying to finally hit that [G] full
_ Four-finger [Bb] G chord so it takes place here on the fifth string [A] with an open fifth string
_ [B] Fifth string second fret fifth string [A] open one [Em] time down on that four-finger [G] G
_ Then a down up up down down up up down down up up down three times
[E] So this song usually a lot of kind of picking and strumming that are intermixed to get better at that
I made this lesson for you.
[Ab] You can check it out next and [A] for the kind of [Em]
verse
It's kind of [G] verse slash chorus or chord progression [A] here open chords gonna sound really good on the [Eb] acoustic we have a [C] C a
_ _ _ _ _ [D] D and _ _ _ _ a [Am] minor
_ _ _ _ and a [G] G _
_ _ _ Yeah, that's a [N] great chord progression so the way I remember this the way the corporation good is
the chord [C] progression is C
_ [D] to a D _ a
[Am]
minor
to a G
[G] _ _ Then he just flips it and [D] goes D
_ to [C] C
and then a [Am] minor
To G [G] the a minor and G always follow each other
[A] He just mixes up the C's and D's at the beginning of each part of the verse
Now to play the strum pattern here
We're gonna start out simple and kind of build our way up.
The [B] first string pattern is [C] just a down down up
We're gonna [G] count this as eighth notes though
One and two and [E] three and four and the way this would be counted is [C] one and two and three and
_ One and two and three and it's the starts on the C.
So _ _
So you wish you [D] were D? _ _
_ _ Heaven [Am] from a minor _ _
_ Blue skies [G] from G _ _
_ Can you tell a [D] green D? _
_ from a cold [C] steel C a _
_ Smile from [Am] a minor _ _
_ always followed [G] by a G _ _
So that's the kind of basic version [A] and that will sound perfectly fine playing along with the record
I [Ab] like to add in some up [Gb] strums for a little [Ab] spice
The first up strum [F] you can add at the very end of [Db] the core of the strumming pattern
so we'll have a [C] down down up up down down up up down and
Always [E] stress your down strums.
They [D] should be louder than the up strums and _ _
_ _ _ _ _ The [G] up strum is really just kind of
[Eb] Grazing and slightly getting like the first [C] three strings.
You don't need to strum [Eb] all six strings
Just the first three two or three will [G] work.
And then why [Db] I was playing it at the beginning of the video
I also do a little up strum before that [D] second down strum.
So I have this going [C] on _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ kind of this way one and two and three and four and _
one and two and three and four and [F] and again stress the [C] down strums, so _ _ _ _
I
_ _ _ Think you [D] can tell
_ _ _ _ Heaven from [Am] hell that kind of thing
And again, if [E] you just keep the basis on that the down [Gb] strums those up strums just kind of [Gb] spice it up a little bit
[C] So add this Pink Floyd tune to your set list.
[E] It's a great one.
Sounds great on the acoustic as well
