[E]
Hey there, Don't Fear the Reaper.
[N]
I did a cover of this song a couple of weeks back and I [A]
played the [Bm] riff that I just played.
I think it [C] lasted for [E] like over four minutes.
It's a [B] long time to play when you do something repetitive, [F] [G] plus the fingering.
But anyway, I tried to figure out an easier way of [Em] playing it.
[A] But before I get to that, [G] it's a power [A] chord there.
That's an A [G] power chord, G major, and [F] then, [E] [F] well that's an [C] F, C, and [Ab] then an open [D] D,
[Ab] and an open [G] G.
And then back up to a G, and [A] then back [E] up to an A.
[B] And this [F] one here, it can be kind of stressful when you're doing that for a while.
[Em]
[F] [A] Anyway, I [E]
[Bm] use this thing right here, Spider Capo.
It's a guitar capo, but unlike the regular ones, you've got, I'll call them fingers.
[B] It has, [E] let me see if I can get that focused in there.
[D] And it has [E] six individual fingers right there.
[B] So you can [E] select which strings you want to [F] use this on.
[Em] And I put it on here, first fret, or right behind the first fret.
And put [E]
it right behind there.
And then, they're all lifted up right now, [D] so I just [G] use it on the,
[E] [F]
[B] just on the low E string, right [F] behind the first fret there.
And again, I just leave all the other fingers off the strings there.
Okay, I'll [A] play it.
[G]
[F] [A] Oops, try it again.
[G]
[F] [G] [F] [G] [F] [G]
[A] [G] [F] [G] [A] [G]
[F] [G] [A] [E]
A lot [Bb] easier to play.
[F]
And I found out, though, that [E] if I put this, push it back [Bm]
in the center of [E] the,
you know, between the nut and the fret there, first fret.
[D] So in other words, I'm just pressing down on the string [E] right in the middle, you know, in between.
[F]
And you can notice it's, I've got, [B] I've got to tune it down a bit.
[F]
Okay, that's an F.
[E] But when I lift this off, [D] my E's a little bit flat, so I've got to bring it [E] back up.
Moving it up here close, so that [D] the finger, [Bm] you know, presses [E] down right behind the [F] fret.
So that's an F.
[E]
[D] And that E's a little bit closer to tune, you know, [Em] closer in tune than [F] it was before.
[E]
[F]
[A] So, [G] [F] [G] [A]
[G] [F] [G] [A]
[N] and let me see if I can get positioned over here.
[F] Get it tuned there.
[Dm] But to play this [A] riff, I do a strict [E] alternate picking pattern.
And by that I mean, you know, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, [Dm] up.
[A] So, down, up.
[G]
[F] [G]
[A] [G]
[F] [G]
[A]
[G]
[F] [G]
[A] [G]
[F] [G] [A]
[G] [F] [G] [A] [G]
[F] [G] [A] [G]
[A] [G]
[A]
Down, up.
[B] [F]
So, this thing here, it makes [B] it a lot easier [Bb] to [F] concentrate [E] on your picking.
[G] You know, because it makes it a lot more [Dm] simple playing it with this [F] thing.
[G]
[F] So anyway, that's a [B] little trick [F] I used to make that a lot easier to play.
[G] And a lot of other things you can do [D] with this, but I'm [F] not going to get into that.
Just [D] wanted to get into this one [B] riff here and let you in on that.
Okay.
Hope you enjoyed the lesson.
And thanks for watching.
[N] Bye.
