Hi this is TKViper and today I'm going to show you an electric Taishokoto, a
Japanese [A] instrument that combines a guitar, piano and typewriter.
But first
let's look at the accessories.
This is the shoulder strap made of [Gm] leather I
think and you hook it on like this to the hard case.
The lock of the case is
broken so [C] the keys are useless.
Next we have a very brief manual that shows you
how to tune it, use the electrical component and also how to read notation
for the Taishokoto.
And it's very simple because it's just a [A] number system that
goes from 1 [Ab] to 7.
1 meaning a C note.
[D] And that's it for this manual.
Next we have
some spare strings.
A bass string and the second string.
The bass string goes
through this rubber tube before you set it on the bridge just like on that
diagram.
And the bass string only plays one note according to the way you tune
it.
Next we have three custom-made picks for this instrument.
The instrument is
called Lan.
It means orchid and it's made by Suzuki.
So the picks themselves say
the word Lan.
And they're in very good condition.
Two of them have never been
used before.
Now we're gonna look at the hard case.
We have a compartment here for
your guitar cables or your extra [N] strings and also another compartment
right there.
And I usually put the belt right here.
And now let's look at the
hard case.
As I said before the lock is broken and if you don't line up the top
and bottom perfectly it's not gonna close.
So just line them up and it should
close very easily.
And the key is basically useless.
And to open it it's
better to lift it up and then squeeze it tight and then pull open just like that.
And now finally let's take out this instrument.
It is an electric model so
there's no sound box meaning that board there is solid.
So it's a bit heavier
than acoustic Taisho Goto.
Just like an electric guitar is heavier than a
classical guitar or an acoustic guitar.
And as you can see it is in very good
condition.
Beautiful colors and it's very compact.
And as I said before there are
hardly any scratches.
The only little lines you see are near the plucking area
on top of that black plastic plate.
And as you know plastic scratches very
easily.
And now let's tune this instrument with the built-in tuner.
Just
flick the switch to the right and you see [G] these lights here.
And if they blink
in groups that means it's in tune.
And if the lights propagate to the left or the
right then the note is too low or too high.
All the strings are tuned in G so
the lowest string low G, the second string middle G and the rest high G.
And
you play it like this.
[A] [D] [D]
[G] So basically the keys are laid out like the piano [Bb] keys.
But instead of piano keys you have typewriter keys.
[Eb] And the right hand plugs
it like a guitar.
And now we're going to plug it in to an amp.
[D] Turn this on and
it's going to get loud.
[C] [G]
[C] [Am]
[G]
[F] [C]
[C] [G] You can control the volume with the right knob.
And the
left knob controls whether you want a softer sound or a crisper sound.
And now
we're going for a [Gb] closer look.
[C] So as you can see it's in very good condition.
This
plate here has a few lines and the rest is dust.
You can just blow that off.
[Gb] And
it's very shiny.
You can see the reflection of my camera.
[N] So the wooden
part has almost no scratches.
And here are the keys and the tuning device.
Five
strings and they are basically like the tuning pegs of a guitar.
So very easy to
tune and you just have to turn a little bit and the notes will will change pitch.
So not like a guitar.
So we have the keys there.
Basically two octaves.
Starts with
the 5, a G note.
And goes to the middle G right there.
And the last G on the right
side.
And plus three more notes.
The 5 sharp, 6 and 6 sharp.
And now I'm going to
give you a little slideshow.
