_ _ _ _ _ _ Hi, I've had a lot of requests for a how-to video or just a tutorial _ on Angelus, my arrangement of Angelus.
So I thought I might put this together.
Hopefully you find it helpful.
I'm just going to go through the chords and then the rhythm I use and then how I play the melody.
And again, I hope you find it helpful.
_ Please leave any questions below and I'll try to address them.
So for Elliot Smith Angelus, _ _ _ I play an A minor, which is my first chord, _ _ _ _ _ _ [Em] with that
ninth in there and the seventh and then [D] D, _ _ _ then E [Em] minor, _ _ _ [D] D, [C] C.
_ _ Let's [Am] see here. _ _ _
_ Yeah, that's right.
_ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ _ [C] _ _ That's basically the introduction and the verses.
_ There's that second part.
I walk up to the [B] _ B major, [D] _
D, _ [C] _ C, _ [G] _
G, _ [A] _ _ A, and then I walk to the [C] C, _ _ [D] D, [C] C, _
_ _ _ _ [Em] E minor, [D] _
D, [C] _ C.
And then I do the [D] little D [G] to C and I hold on to that D for the ninth.
_ _ So [Am] those are _ the chords for the introduction verse.
_ [B] And then there's that little bridge part. _ _ _
I'm not playing it exactly correctly, but B and then I kind of walk up the bass, C [G#m] sharp,
_ [D] D, [F#] F sharp, _ _ [B] B, _ _ _ [D] _
D, [C] _ C, _ [G] _ _
G, [A] _ A, and then walk [C] _
C, [D] D, [C] C, and _ [E] E [D] minor, D, [C] C, and I do that
little [D] _ _ [C] _ D to C ninth kind of thing.
_ [Am] _ _ So those are most of the chords that I'm using.
Let's see here. _ _
The rhythm I'm using, [Em] you really have to slow this down and practice it with [Am] a metronome.
But it's kind of_ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
So let's see if I can really slow that [A] down.
_ _ [Am] _ _
[F#] _ _ [Am] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [Em] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ _ _ I'm not playing it the exact same way every time, but the rhythm more or less is that
alternating left hand, right hand kind [Am] of feel. _ _ _
[Em] _ _ [Am] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [Em] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [B] _ _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ [A] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ So I'm trying to recreate some of the [N] acoustic guitar rhythm in my piano part.
_ _ [Am] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _
_ _ [Em] _ _ [D] _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ _ _ [Am] _ _ _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _ [Em] _
_ _ [D] _ _ [C] _ _ _ _
_ _ [B] _ _ [D] _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ [G] _ _ [A] _ _ _ _
[Em] _ _ [C] _ _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ _ [Em] _ _ [D] _ _
[C] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [C] _ _ _ [D] _ _
[G] _ So that part, the C to C nine [D] to D, I'll slow that [C] down. _ _ _ _ _
_ [D] _ _ [C] _ _ _ _ _
_ [D] _ _ [C] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ Again, I'm just trying to mimic some of [G] the rhythm in the guitar part that Elliot played.
_ For the melody, [A] _ _ _ [B] _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Em] _ _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ it actually lends itself pretty well to the chord voicings I'm using.
[Am] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [Em] _ _ [D] _
_ _ [G] _ _ [C] _ _ _ [B] _
_ _ [D] _ _ [C] _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Em] _ _ [D] _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
So when I was working [Am] on this, I seriously took a metronome and slowed it way, way down _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [Em] _ _
_ _ [D] _ _ [Bm] _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [Am] _
_ until [B] I started to feel the rhythm and I didn't have to think about it so much.
_ _ So it was a lot smoother when I played it.
_ _ _ That bridge_ Don't start_
[D] _ _ [F#] _ _ [B] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _
[F#] _ _ [B] _ _ _ [D] _ _ [C] _
_ _ [G] _ _ [A] _ _ _ _
_ _ [C] _ _ _ _ _ _
[B] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [D] _ _ _ [F#] _ _ _ _
[B] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ [A] Really, to get this smooth enough to where it sounds musical, you really do have to practice,
or I had to practice it over and over with the metronome to get it smooth.
_ _ That's kind of how I play it.
I never play it exactly the same every time.
I do use that chord progression and then that melody in my right hand. _
If you have any questions, leave them below and I'll try to get back to you.
I hope that helps a little bit, at least breaking it down, kind of what I do. _
I think you could also slow the original video down on YouTube and that might be helpful.
Anyway, thank you as always for watching. _
I'm very humbled that people come and check out the videos I make.
Thank you so much.
