Emiliana Torrini - The Making Of Fisherman's Woman (Part 1) chords
Start Jamming...
[Cm] Pretending to be [Eb] a good fisherman's woman
[F] Just like Anna Ingrundsman
[Abm] The gladiator of all [D] [Cm] fishermen's wives
It makes it a [Eb] lot easier
Thinking [A] of you on the sea
[Db] [Abm] Where you have to be a monster [E] [Abm] to tie your hair
I wanted to call the album Fisherman's Woman
before I almost wrote the record
Because it was [G] the first lyric I wrote for the record
[Cm] probably three years ago or something
When you go to [C] bed
You try to sleep by [E] listening to [Ab] the boat breathing
[Abm] It was sort of set in stone
that I wanted [Fm] to write with one instrument only
I wanted to get [Ab] away from [Db] singing on top of a production
It was just something for me to make it more [Ab] personal
while I was working
[F]
[Db] [Fm] David Donald [Bbm] introduced me to [Eb] Dan [Dbm] Carey
or Mr.
Dan [A] as he calls himself
and [N] we sort of hit it off straight away
He started by doing this drum machine thing
and I was like, we're going to write on the guitar
and lo and behold
[Dbm] he ended up being the best guitarist I've ever seen
which was [Gm] really, really [E] amazing
because [N] he just makes the most amazing guitar melodies
and then the songs were born
and it was just all for me there
I only wanted the demos to be the record in the beginning
I wanted it to stay the way it was
and then we just sort of fiddled around
Dan met Julian Joseph at a party
who's an amazing jazz pianist
He's like, well, call me if you need me
and we're just sort of dribbling Okay then
He came in and did a few songs in five seconds
It was just incredible
We just sat there listening to him like, oh my God
and then we weren't going to have any drums on it
but Samuel E.
was going through London with Moom
and they had a day off
so we thought, oh, it's a good opportunity to try it out
because he's [F] an amazing drummer
He's here, he's quick
and [Db] we ended up using that as well
because everything he [Ab] did was so good
So it [Dbm] just escalated really naturally
[D] It was a very, very naturally born record
[N] It was exactly how I've always wanted to work a record
It just sort of happens
and everybody that took part in the record
we became sort of [Abm] like a gang almost
I think we are going to be for a very long [G] time
I don't think we [N] had any rules in writing
Mostly just trying to jam it
and have fun doing it
We only worked like two hours a day
I'm always trying to run away from having to write
[C] and do the work
[Db] I'm always like, oh, shall we go for coffee now?
[C] Oh, let's go for lunch
Shall we have wine?
Like [N] distracting, doo-doo-doo, always distracting
I think that's maybe why it took a long time to write
Because we could have done it probably in a month
but it took [Eb] two years
[Bb]
[Fm] Today's [Bb] Been
[Fm]
[Bb] OK is really sentimental to me
and it's [Gm] also the first song me and Dan wrote
[Bb] [Gm] And it's just really funny to think [Bb] back on the record
because it was made [Eb] with so much laughing face
and it's a quite serious [Bb] thing
and we were just going [G] crazy sometimes
[Eb] Today's Been OK, very little had to be done on it
because the lyrics [Db] were already there
and then sometimes afterwards there's a lyric
Fishy Miss Woman, there was [D] a ladder
[A] and Sonny Road also wrote us a [C] ladder
[G] [Am] [C]
[F] [C]
[Bm] [Am] [C]
[F] [C]
[Em] [Am] [C]
[F] I don't [C] know what to say
[Em] [Am] I [C] travel throughout
[Fm] through [C] deserts on my horse
[A] [C] but you're beside me
I wanna come back home
It took such a [E] long time to finish the lyrics
We had the first [C] verses [A] and the chorus
and then it just stopped
and I [C] remember [Dm] when [C] we were playing gigs
we just sang [A] it over and over again, the same thing
because we really wanted [Gm] to play it live
we [A] couldn't wait
[Bb] [Db] [A]
It sort of became our [Ab] favourite song
[C] it was a very natural thing for it [F] to become the [C] single
Also when you [Am] hear the record
it is [C] almost the only single
I
[Am] never [C] married
[Fm] [C] never had those kids
[Am] [C] I loved too many
[F] Now [C] heaven's closed its gates
[Am] I did want the video [C] to be animated
because I [Am] am terrible on film
just like a pin [C] man
[F] so I was [E] really wanting to get the spirit of the record
[C] without me having to ruin [E] it
[F] It's a long, long time [C] ago
Les sent us a [Am] few video [C] clips
one that [F] just [C] came in with a [Am] hand out of the TV
and punched [A] me in the face
and that was [Bb] Ali Taylor
[C] [A]
[Bb] [C] [A]
She literally just gave it to her
[C] didn't really want to dictate it too much
but we have been a pain in the arse to work with
because I am very particular on [G] things
I want things to [Em] be a certain way
[Am] and it can be a bit [C] difficult
but [Dbm] I've told her [C] she can slap me when it's ready
[E]
I'm not going to lie
As one [F] will find which way to [D]
go
[Am] Now come [C] and meet me
[F] On [E] the [C] sunny
