Welcome, Emmylou Harris!
The BBC had this idea to do ten commandments of country music,
[Ab] but, [C] you know, I break a lot of rules in music,
[Gb] so it was very interesting to start thinking [N] about what,
in my particular [Ebm] repertoire, could fall into certain commandments.
I think we all need some kind of rules to help us,
even when we want to [Eb] break those rules.
[Fm] So, [Bb] they're not in any particular order, [Ab] these commandments,
except I tried to make a set [F] list that seemed to work pretty [Bb] good.
And [Eb] [N] the first commandment of country is
remember to always take the keys to the highway.
I thought that was clever.
I don't know.
Anyway, being that country music has so much to do with [G] the fact
that we can't wait to leave and get on that highway
and go to where we think we should be,
and then we spend the rest of our lives
trying to get back to where we started from.
That's a big thing in country music.
[D]
Well, [A] when the wind don't blow in [D]
Amarillo
[A] And the moon long ago in the sun [D] don't rise
Shall [G] I cast my dreams [D] upon your love bed
Lie [G] beneath the lavender of [D] your eyes
[A] Love, you think the road is long [D] and lonely
Little [A] brother thinks the road is straight [D] and fine
[G] Little darling thinks the road is [D] soft and lovely
I'm thankful [G] that old road is a friend [D] of mine
[G] Snowy [D] morning, [Gbm] come morning [G] I'll be through these [D] hills in gold
[A] [D]
[A] [D]
[G] [D]
[G] [D]
[A] Little bit of the year's goodbye, you cannot [D] still then
You [A] cannot turn the circles of [D] the sun
Oh, [G] you cannot count the miles until [D] you feel them
And you cannot hold [G] a lover that [D] is gone
[G] Snowy morning, [D]
[A] come morning [G] I'll be through these [D] hills in gold
Oh, [A] [D]
[A] [D]
[G] [D]
[G] [D]
[A] tomorrow the mums will [D] be sleeping
[A] Silent, the blanket [D] green and low
[G] Oh, Lord, I shall hear the [D] silence they are keeping
I'll [G] bring all their [D] promises to you
[G] Snowy morning, [D]
[A] come morning [G] I'll be through these [A] hills in [D] gold
[G] Snowy morning, [D] [A] come [G] morning I'll be through these hills [D] in gold

Thank you very much everybody, thanks for coming [N] out.
The first song that we did, Snowy on Raton, is a Townes Van Zandt song
that was an outtake from an album I did a few years ago
and that's the first time we ever performed it for
