[D] When I was 13, I played [E] a place called the 11th Door in downtown Austin.
I remember I'd fallen asleep at 1 o'clock in the morning because it was too late, so
I said, I [D] got to go home, you know, I got to go home and go [Em] to 8th grade tomorrow.
[E] [Abm]
[A] It was a [Em] time when you'd hear a guitar [E] tone or a guitar part or an effect and you'd [A] never
heard anything like it before.
So it was [Bb] all new.
[Ab] [F]
[C] I didn't get a Strat until 18 years old, but it started opening up harmony and chord stuff
and rhythm stuff to me.
[D] [G]
[B] [D] [G]
[B] You get [D] in that vortex, then magic can happen because it's just something that's [Bb] happening
without you trying [F] to control it or think about it too much.

[F] [Eb]
[E] My most used and favorite instrument is the Strat.
I've used it all my career [Db] and [A] I've always enjoyed semi-hollow [G] body guitars.
[B] [G]
To [B] have my Fender [E] guitar incorporate that to me [Bm] was like kind of melding two of my favorite
[Gm] things about a guitar.
[Bb] [D]
What if we could pull a [Dm] couple of things together and maybe [G] get a wider [Dm] aperture of tonal performance
[C] from an instrument?
It would kind of still give you that punch and that mid-range that a solid body [G] does,
but leave enough of that fluxing of energy where it inhales and exhales.
[B]
[A] [E] [Gbm]
[B] This pickup's assembly is [D] identical to the one on my solid body Strat.
It [E] performs just a little bit [D] differently because of the nuances of the [A] resonation of the body.
It's kind of an addicting thing.
You get used to it.
I'm kind of enjoying it more than playing the solid bodies right now.

[Bb] [D] The advice B [G].B. King gave me once when I [E] was doing a tour with him, he said, you know,
you can do this, you [A] can do that.
There's all these things you can do, but find the one thing you do that's unique that nobody
else can do and just go with it.
