Eurovision Review 2018: The Netherlands - Waylon - “Outlaw In ‘Em” chords
Start Jamming...
Everybody's got a little outlaw in them.
Dun-na-na-na-na-na-na-na.
Waylon from the Netherlands singin' this song!
We should talk about it right now y'all ready?
Let's do this!
[D] [Em] [E]
[E] [G]
[A] [E]
[G]
[A]
[Em] [B] Yes!
Waylon from the Netherlands is honoring his obsession with Nashville
with some country rock.
Memphis, [N] honey, see a maze, hunty!
I would say Nashville, he is serving it, he is slaying it.
We're talking Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, all the way to Amsterdam.
This feels very real to him, it doesn't feel forced.
I think sometimes when artists take on genres that originate in other countries,
it can sound very fake, like you're trying to cut your toes off to make it fit the shoe,
but honey, this shoe fits.
It is slipping around that voice like a glove.
Yes!
I love the grit in his voice, it's almost like he swallowed a snake and then he's smoking,
do you know what I mean?
It's so bluegrass, isn't it?
Bluegrass, sinful.
This will not be everyone's genre, this will not be everyone's cup of tea,
it's not my cup of tea, but I think he does it so, so well.
I see no scenario in which he doesn't make the final.
I think he is a great live performer, I think the Netherlands generally get staging
if we leave Trenchant to the side.
I'm very optimistic.
Leave Trenchant to the side, you are so funny.
There is a direct flight from Amsterdam to Nashville?
Yeah, well, Tennessee anyway, there is, and you know what?
I think it connects in Atlanta actually.
No, actually I think it, no, there is definitely Amsterdam Memphis KLM flights
that used to be a northwest route, but anyway, by the by,
this is, you know, like Waylon truly does build bridges between both cities.
This is so authentic that actually even in America it wouldn't sound out of place.
You know, this is serving it full flavor, so you really have to be committed
to sort of enjoying these sounds.
Waylon certainly is.
I think, again, like you say, this is so fitting to his genre, you know,
to his style, to even his wardrobe choices.
Of the [D#] five songs that he, we had to choose, that the Dutch [A] public had to choose from,
this is [C#] probably my least favorite.
But, [F#]
but I still see this having life.
[F] Trisha [E] Yearwood, Reba McEntire, [G] Garth Brooks, Waylon, [G#] Angus.
I love that the Netherlands has gone for something with so much [F#] grit.
We've had such wet country songs from in the past.
[E] I mean, like, Calm After The Storm was very melodic and dull and beautiful.
Dau Bob was just a bit like, bouncing along.
Love him, love him.
We're talking about music and nothing else.
But I just think this is so much [F] better than that,
because there's real, like, aggression and power and [E] fire.
And also, Waylon is kind of sexy.
He's kind of attractive.
We're talking [G#] about music.
I mean, the whole package, though.
He has that whole, like, troubled musician rock artist,
which you so don't get at Eurovision.
And I just think he sells this so well.
[F#] We know he can perform live.
The Netherlands has done exceptionally well with country songs in the past.
I agree.
I think this is an absolute lock for the final.
And yeah, I can't wait to see how he does it on stage.
And there is nothing else like this in the competition.
Nothing else.
This stands out like a diamond among the rubies, honey.
It is time to go around and give our scores out of 10 with the justification, Angus.
This is an 8.5 for me.
It's one of my favorites of the year.
I love country music anyway, but I think this is such a strong effort from the Netherlands.
I don't know.
I like this whole, like, hard drinking, that side of country music that he's got.
That whole, like, whiskey and water and wine.
He just has so much power and emotion.
And, like, you know, he [F] feels what he's singing.
So I think this is a really good lock for the [D#m] final.
Slipping down easy with [N] just a little burn.
Devin?
I'm giving this a 5.
And I think it's a really decent effort.
I think that Waylon
You know what?
This has life beyond Eurovision.
I could see this, you know, the CMA's picking this up for some international country,
you know, best international country song, you know.
I mean, this has life beyond that.
And the other good reason why Waylon is in Eurovision is you need serious musicianship at Eurovision.
Quite often Eurovision is being labeled [F#] as this bit of a joke [A] contest, bit of a comedy thing.
[N] So you really need true musicians like Waylon to kind of feature in the contest.
I think it's important.
Absolutely.
Maybe the Common Lennox will even cover this one day.
Hey, Elsa!
I love this.
Fantastic.
I'm giving it a 5.
Now, that may seem low.
That may seem low, but you know, you can't give all your songs an 8 or a 9, can you?
All the songs you like.
That was my line.
There we go.
And I wish him nothing but the best in the final.
In any case, that's what we think.
What do you think?
Are you riding that plane from Amsterdam?
Overall number.
Oh!
We of course are not the only Louis Vloggers in the world.
There are dozens all over the place.
They have given averages.
I should point out, these people are in New Zealand.
They're in the Netherlands too.
Yes, they are in Belgium, they are in Finland.
Diana's in Finland.
They're everywhere.
Alright, so the overall average is
Wow, 7.28.
That is among the highest scores we've seen thus far.
Anything above a 7 is considered very, very good indeed.
Because when you're taking an average from [Em] so many people across so many demographics, that says quite [N] a lot.
In any case, that's what we think.
What do you think?
Are you riding the plane from Amsterdam to Nashville via Atlanta?
