Start Jamming...
Hello and welcome to my sample lesson of the online academy for Irish music and this is the sample lesson of the second
of my whistle course.
During this lesson I'll teach you a lovely barn dance, a lovely Vincent Broderick barn dance called the New Broom.
[G] Before we begin, maybe we'll just tune up.
[Gb]
[Gm]
Lovely so
[G]
I'll play first and then I'll break it down into smaller pieces and we can learn learn it together that way and then finally
we'll use this [Gm] ornamentation and we'll be working some variations [C] together.
So because this is a sample lesson
I won't be able to spend as much time [Gm] as I will do [Gb] in the full lesson.
[Ab] Really, [G] it's just to give you a taste of what's to come.
I'll start off anyway, this is the New Broom.
[G]
[B]
[Gm]
[G]
[G]
[B]
Okay, so the first little bit of the first half it goes like this.
[Gm]
[G] Okay, so I'll count to two and you join in after me.
After two we start on G.
[Ab]
[Gm]
[G]
[C]
[N]
Maybe a slide up [Gbm] to that E if you want to try that [Bb] slide.
[Gm]
[Ab] Yeah, [Db] slide up like that.
Let's [F] try the G from the start.
[G]
[F]
Lovely and the next bit.
[G]
[Gm]
Little bit of a start on the B.
[B] B, A, [G] G, [A] E, slide up to the B.
[G] G, [A] A, [E] [Gb] E, [E] cut.
D, E.
Okay, let's try that from the B.
[G] [G]
[Gm]
Beautiful, okay from the top after two on the G.
[Gm]
[Ab] Very nice, the next bit, you recognise it?
[G]
Go G, [Abm] B, D, B, D, E, cut.
D, B, D, D, B.
Make sure to keep this top finger off for all those high D's [G] just to make sure you get that tone nice, okay?
So we're going to go from the G.
You ready?
One, two.
[Ab] Very nice and to end this we're going to [Am] go
[D] [A]
[Gm]
[C]
[Ab]
with these two fingers for the E.
Like a double bounce and again on the full lessons I'll spend an awful lot longer
[Ab]
explaining these little ornaments and how we incorporate them into the piece.
But for now we'll give it a go.
So something to do.
One, [C]
[G]
[Gm] [C] two,
