Balcony TV!
[Ab] Hello and welcome to Balcony TV Melbourne.
My [B] name is Holly.
We're here on [Eb] this ridiculously muggy day on the balcony for St Kilda Festival edition.
And I'm here with Fallow.
Hello Fallow.
Hello Holly.
I really wanted to say that because I like rhymes and stuff.
So you guys are [Dm] going to play a song for us today. We are.
And what's the song called?
The [Ebm] Ballad of Jimmy James.
[N] Awesome.
Go right ahead.
Thank you.

[Ab] [G]
[Cm]
[C] Keep to running water where [Ab] his kingdom quays the clear
[G] The tide won't pull you under, it's a valley [C] full of fear
And in [Cm] that still water [Ab] is the ghost of Jimmy James
Who [G] was raped by his three uncles and beaten to the grave
[Ab] They cut his belly open and [G] they filled it up with stones
And [C] they tossed it in the still water as if [Ab] just a bag of bones
But [G] Jimmy James' body would [C] not sing
Jimmy James, they thought, and you could [Ab] haul him or see his [G] smile
Behind his bloody face and in his [C] bloody lambs eyes
The uncles, they threw bottles [Ab] all the stores that they could find
[G] As if more holes in his body would [C] mean he would sink in time
[Ab] They shook their feet to heaven and [G] their stamp there
Leaving hell in [C] their house, that still water, and [Ab] its eye that wouldn't swell
But [G] Jimmy James' body would [C] not sing
[Ab]
[G] La dee da dee da dee da dee da dee [C] da dee da dee da
[Cm]
They tried to throw a rope out [Ab] to try and fetch him in
But [G] the rope just wouldn't hold so [C] one uncle set it swim
He made it out to Jimmy [Ab] James' apartment like a donkey trying to [G] rest upon the bar
[C] But the bar here was all low, so [Ab] they bossed all he ran [G] under
But only one came home, [C] his home, the bank
The uncles [Ab] cast their rotten luck still
[G] Jimmy James' body would [C] not sing
[Ab] La dee da dee da [G] dee da dee da dee da [C] dee da dee da dee [G] da dee da dee [C] da

[C] brother [Cm] said to the other, I [Ab] won't leave our brother there
As [G] he slowly waited at his brother [C] pulling at his pants
He dived down once, came back up, [Ab] his brother in his arms
[G] But he had no breath or strength left [C] so they both went back under
[Ab] As they ran beneath the surface, [G] that brother called their names
As [Cm] he hazed along the bank, the still [Ab] water smoothed again
[G] On Jimmy James he laid [Cm] the blame
[Ab] La dee da dee da [G] dee da dee da dee da dee da dee [Cm] da dee da dee da dee [G] da [Cm] dee da
By no longer stood there shouting, [Ab] cause there's a but gold
[G] He clawed at his skin [Cm] till his nails filled with blood
He walked out in that water [Ab] with pockets full of stones
And [G] the last thing that he saw was [Cm] Jimmy's body still afloat
[Ab] La dee da dee da [G] dee da dee da dee da dee da dee [Cm] da dee da [Ab] dee da dee da

[B] [Ab] guys, thank you for playing
Thank you for [Db] having us
Peter, Neil, Wade, Rob, Renny, [Eb] yes!
Well done
[Bb] So good to have you guys on the [E] show, thanks for popping on down and starting your Sunday with us
So you guys of course are playing on the live and local stage at St Kilda Festival on February 12th
Yep, very excited to be playing on the live and local stage on, what date was that?
February 12th I [Eb] believe
At 2.20 I think in the afternoon, so yeah, should be good
Awesome, and are you guys [Ab] festival goers yourselves?
Do you like [D] to kick out the festivals both as performers and punters?
Yeah, yeah, enjoy it, yep, yep, Harvest Festival went to that, just joking, that was great, did you like that?
Awesome, and so [N] Wade, yourself and Renny were kind of the [Dm] beginnings of Fallow the way that you guys are now
How did [E] you guys meet initially and how did Fallow come about?
There used to be a bar [Em] over in St Kilda East called the Muse Bar on the corner of Incoming and Austin
I remember that one!
Which is now a mystery and op shop, but Renny and I was just there doing open mic
He just got back from sleeping on a beach in Mexico and I'd sort of come down from Queensland
[D] So yeah, we just liked the cut of each other's jib and that was pretty much it
So yeah, [A] that was a good place, that was an interesting sort of joint
Yeah definitely, and how did the current incarnation of Fallow come [Em] about?
How did you all meet?
We had a couple of people join who were friends and then they left for reasons, one reason or another
And then Neil joined I think, [D] and then [D] Pete, and then Rob, we saw Rob
Rob was sort of always hanging around and [Em] did the sound for us
[D] He was a bit of a creep
Yeah he was a bit [Eb] of a creep
Just hung out and zooey
We played at the St Arnard Festival and he was there playing on his own
He was playing the acoustic guitar and playing the bass with his foot and singing
[N] So we said, come down
And you guys have got some very [E] beautiful imagery and old timey themes happening in your [D] music
And quite a few different [Ab] influences and instruments coming into this
Is this [G] something that you have consciously decided [N] will be the direction for Fallow?
Or is this just something that's quite natural for you guys?
It's a happy accident I think
The creepiness is natural?
Yeah, look at the guy, [A] it's my influence
Awesome, and what's [C] coming up for 2012 for Fallow?
We'll have our second album coming out in [G] March Wonderful
So [E] we'll launch that and we'll do some interstate shows, we're going over to WA I think in [G] Easter
And hopefully we'll get up to Brisbane
And [Gb] then we'll hopefully be releasing some songs, some [A] new stuff throughout the year
From April [F] onwards hopefully
Excellent, well good luck for everything, good luck for 2012
Of course for Sick Kilda Festival [F] too
And thanks for joining us on the balcony
Thanks for having us
No worries at all
