_ _ [Abm] Hey guys, it's Carl Brown from _ _ GuitarLessons365.com.
Today we're going to learn another Christmas tune.
It's going to be Feliz Navidad by Jose Feliciano.
So this one's a fun one.
It's got a couple _ of_it's_i got one really cool _ _ strumming pattern to [D] practice and really three different chord progressions. Now I didn't play_we're_we' in standard tuning here. I didn't play the intro to the song which uses kind of the same chords. Sounds like this. _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ _ Alright, so what we're going to do_you_y know it has all _ [Bm] _ [D] that stuff going on, all these_he plays different instruments and multiple guitars, but we're kind of keeping it just the guitar chords itself for this one. _ _ Now the rhythm is kind of cool. Let me just show you the chords real quick. We're going to have the D major chord, _ _ [G] then the G. _ Now this is the G major that [B] has the open [G] B string in it. Not so_not_n that if you're used to playing that. And then the A [A] major chord. You can play that with a bar, _ any kind of fingering you like to play using an [D] A. And we're back to the D. So it's [G] D, [A] G, _ [D] A, D. Now the rhythm is_we_w can kind of_he_h uses this rhythm underneath the intro here and the verse of the song or the Feliz Navidad section of the song. And when he switched to English he does full strumming. So let's take a look at this rhythm. Now what you want to do is every time you start playing the rhythm you're just going to do a down up _ _ _ and then you're going to do a muted strum. So what that means is really the back of your palm hits the strings, _ lays down on the strings at the same time you're picking across them. So we have this. You just kind of_it's_i like a percussive hit. _ So we have this. Down, up. _ _ Alright? So you just did a percussive hit and that was a downstroke on that percussive hit. So from there when we do the rhythm we're going to do an up, down, up _ _ _ _ _ followed by a percussive hit. So up, down, up, mute. Up, down, up. _ _ So I suggest just getting that D chord in your hand. _ _ Remember, start with two. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ Then_so it's a good_it has a lot of momentum to it. Alright? So after you get that _ _ [G] _ _ to the G [A] and A [D] and back to the D. _ Repeat. _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
Alright? So at the end of this you just hit that chord and then the vocals come in. Alright, from there we just go to the standard verse which [G] uses the same chords but just in a different order. You're going to start now with the G, _ _ _ [A] then the A, _ [D] and then the D played twice as long. So we have [G] this. _ _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _
_ So you're doing that pattern twice on each chord except for the D you're going to do it [G] four times. _ _ _ Now here I'm starting with down, just down, up first though, remember? _ Then the full [A] pattern. _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [G] Repeat. _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [G] And just repeat. _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ [A] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _
_ _ _ [G] Alright, then we got to I Want to Wish You a Merry Christmas part of it. _ _ This one uses a few more_well,_wel adds a chord to it. We don't do the muted strum anymore. It's just straight, _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ no mutes. Just down, up, down, up, down, up. So the chords are going to be a G, _ _ _ _ _ _ [A] A, _ _ _ _ _ to that [D] D, _ _ _ _ _ and here's going to be the trouble spot. A B minor chord. So remember, move your thumb down to the middle of the back of the neck. That's going to allow your fingers to reach this bar so the fingers are going to be going up instead of kind of angled towards your face. _ So you'd have a B minor bar chord. Now this is going to be a bar across the second fret _ and you're also going to play the third fret on the B string _ with your middle finger. [B] Pinky's going to play the fourth fret on the G and then you're going to have the fourth fret on the D as well. I'm barring basically across five strings [Bm] and _ _ the tip of my index finger is muting that sixth string just in case I hit it during a strum. _ _ _ [G] So we have this. _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _
_ [D] _ _ _ _ _ [Bm] _ _
_ _ [G] And then back to G, _ _ _ _ [A] A, _ _ [D] D. _ _ _ _ _ [Ebm] And then you stop after you strum that D a little bit and then you just [G] repeat it. _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
_ [Bm] _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ _ [Ab] Then we go back to the verse rhythm. This is a G, A, D [G] just with a muted riff. _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _
[G] So that's under the Feliz Navidad section of it. So _ _ _ _ _ when he's speaking English, full [A] strum. All the [D] other things, just _ give it that muted feel. All right, hope you guys enjoyed it. I'll see you again soon for Guitar Lessons 365.com. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
