[G] Hello YouTubers, Daddy Stovepipe here.
So today we're going to do a little lesson on Lonnie Johnson.
We're starting with a riff at 8th fret 1st string and the 2nd string on the 10th fret.
And we're dumping the bass, [Ab] nicely damped with the [E] palm of your hand, on [Dm] the 6th string.
[D]
[Gm] [D]
[Ab] So first of all I'm hitting those two top strings fairly hard, [A] so I need to damp the 3rd string.
[E] Otherwise it sounds with the other strings and it doesn't belong there either.
[G] So I damp with this hand.
Come in handy.
[Abm] [Dm] So you can [Am] play hard and get a better effect.
So we did [Ab] that and then we're going down to the Lonnie Johnson signature lick which starts
at the 2nd string 5th [F] fret, [A]
[Eb] [D]
[F] [Em] [D] to the 3rd fret, [Db] the 2nd fret [G] and then to the 3rd string, [A] 2nd
[Ab] fret, 1st, [G]
open and we're [E] sliding on [Gb] the 4th string to the 4th fret and then [Am] to the [G] 2nd
string [D] 3rd fret.
[A]
[Eb] And [D]
sometimes he did a little thing like this.
He pinched [Ab] the 4th and the 3rd [G] string together and [Gb] sliding to the 4th [N] fret on the 4th string
and damping with this finger.
So the 3rd string isn't ringing [G] anymore.
[D]
So and after [G] that we're going back to the riff on [F] the 8th and [D] the 10th fret.
[Ab] [G] [D]
[G]
[D] 8th fret, 1st string, [G]
[Db] 2nd string, [Gbm] 6th fret,
[F] [D] [C]
[G] 2nd string, 3rd fret, 2nd string, 3rd fret
and 3rd [Bm] string, 4th fret.
[D] [C]
And then those two strings together on the 5th fret of the 3rd [G] string and the 3rd fret
on the [Gm] 2nd string which forms a sort of [D] a partial D7 chord.
And we're hitting the 1st [Dm] string also.
So that [A] is again.
[Gbm] [B]
[D] [G] Then we're going into the G chord.
So we can use the G in the bass.
That's the reason why it's there.
So we [Dm] [Gm]
[E] double the bass.
[G]
[D]
[G]
[Dm] [F] So it's the [E] bend on the 2nd [D] string, 5th fret.
That's on the 5th fret also.

[A]
[Eb] [D]
And then [F] we don't have a bass, the A bass.
[Cm] So we just don't play it.
And for the A part [Db] it's
[C] [Db] [Fm] 2nd string, 1st fret.
And we hammer on [E]
to [C] the 2nd fret.
[Em] 1st string open and then we go into the simple A [G] chord.
[D] [A]
[G] [A] 7th fret, 1st string, 5th fret, 1st string.
[G] [Eb] [A]
[G] [Gb] 8, 7, [E] 5 on the 2nd string.
[A] 1st string, 6 and 4th string, 7th [G] fret.
[A]
And back to the signature lick.
[B]
[A] [Gm]
[D] And then as a sort of a turnaround we're going to the 1st string, 5th fret.
[G] 2nd string, 7th [Fm] fret.
That's a D chord by the way.
