First Look & Honest Review: Duesenberg Starplayer TV - Blue Sparkle - UNBELIEVABLE GUITAR 5/5 chords
Start Jamming...
Evening everyone, I just [D#] wanted to do a cool review on this Duesenberg Star Player for you.
Let's go check it out.
Okay, not joking.
I don't really know where to start with this thing.
The whole thing is just beautiful.
Let's check out the finish first.
Blue glitter is just to die for.
Pretty flawless all the way around.
Let's check
inside the F-holes, right?
That's always where I kind of measure build quality.
Look at that.
Absolutely perfect binding.
Masked really well.
Let's check all the edges [N] down here.
Looks good.
Binding looks good.
Looks to be like a dark, I don't know if you can see that.
There's some belt buckle rash on this one.
This is used, but it's a really nice
subtle kind of velvet blue burst, midnight burst.
And there is an arch to the back, which I really like too.
Check all these little spots.
I mean just really good attention to detail on all of the finish.
No blemishes, no spots
where there's any fill work that I can tell.
All the way up the neck looks really good.
On to the hardware, they've got a P90 in the neck and a humbucker in the bridge, which I really like.
I love the little innovative things that they do like these
chrome covers that surround both pickup.
They make it kind of unique to their brand and
just kind of sell the whole look of everything.
Tunamatic bridge, you can tell this is a pretty good one
because it's got the allen wrench keys on the top so you can kind of really get there and get precise.
The Duesenberg, I'm assuming licensed Bixby bridge
looks very similar to other models.
Single point of contact, which is really nice there.
It looks like patent-pending in Germany.
Very nice.
Really nice knurled knobs, very unique.
I like the step, art deco step and then a matching art deco step switch cap.
Pretty cool there.
Pick guard, nice champagne, glitter burst
acrylic pick guard.
You can see there's no space on the bottom.
So it's definitely mounted directly to the top and just little
excessive but perfectly beautiful
little details like this chrome riser.
I don't know if it serves any function, but I really like it.
It's gonna be the tuners.
Duesenberg licensed locking tuners.
Love it.
And then I think it's interesting that they do a
plate for the serial number.
Pretty cool.
Little things that just make this thing over the top.
Love the the brand out of chrome
built into where you're kind of used to seeing a switch cap on a Les Paul.
Very nice.
And then this is really, like I just noticed this right now.
I love that they have their own
humbucker rings and that they have that art deco step
built into it with an extra fifth screw that goes right in the center on both of them.
I've never seen that on a guitar.
Please, if you know of any other guitar that uses those kinds of design features,
please leave it in the comments.
I'd love to check it out.
Beautiful Duesenberg.
Let me spin this around.
Logo, step, truss rod cover.
Really nice quality.
Feels like real cast metal.
And then the nice pearl Duesenberg logo at the top with a step headstock.
Oh, I didn't even notice these two.
Step
Could I say step anymore?
I don't know.
Stepped keys must be unique and cast for them.
Very nice.
Nut height, it looks to be bone and it's very well carved.
You can see string height is perfect.
Okay, on to the fret work.
Very nice cuts at the end.
Everything feels really smooth.
Rounded edges, so nothing's gonna pop out of the edge and catch you all the way down.
Okay, this is just ridiculous.
They have a three-step
kind of imperial design on the actual thumb wheels of the bridge.
I mean, I don't think they could sneak any more
50s vintage awesomeness into this thing.
I just spent the last 10 minutes trying to find anything that I don't like about this thing and I
can't find it cosmetically, so let's go plug it in and have some fun.
Okay, so for playability, the neck is just amazing.
It's super smooth and glossy, which I normally don't like.
I don't like getting stuck on stuff, but
[Am] [E]
[D] So good, and I know the [F#] setup is, you know, that the setup's perfect,
but I can never really blame a guitar for that unless it can't be [A] set up properly.
[E] [F#m] [F#] It just wants to be played, which is awesome.
Let's see, neck [F#m] profile
[B] Pretty small taper up here, [F#] so it feels pretty consistent.
It fills your hand pretty nice, but it's still not thin.
It's just comfortable.
I'm trying to remember which other one
Yeah, it's just a nice profile.
C profile, nothing super special about it, but it's thin enough to really be comfortable.
It's very consistent thickness-wise all the way [D#] up to right about the 12th, 13th fret.
So it's a bit tapered out there.
So I'm playing through the Orange again.
I changed the room, so
maybe the sound will be a little bit less [F#] reverb-y, but hopefully you can kind of [F#] get a feel for it.
I'm going to start on the neck.
This is the neck pickup P90 through the clean channel on the Orange.
[D]
[Am] [Em] [D]
[Am] [G] [D]
[D#] Okay, this is middle position on the clean channel.
[E] [Bm]
[Am] [G] [F#]
[Am] [Am] [E] [A]
[B] [E] [B]
[Am] Part of it might be these [G] strings.
[D]
[F#] They sound a little bit weird on this.
[E] I'm not sure if it's pickup or
if it's the strings, but I'll [F#] let you know if I find out.
Okay, this is the bridge pickup on the clean channel.
Okay, this is the bridge on the clean channel.
[Am] [E]
[A] [E] [Bm] [Am]
[G] [F#]
Okay, this is the bridge pickup on the distorted channel.
[E] [A]
[E] [A] [F#]
[E]
[A] [Am] [E]
[A] [D] [F#] Love it.
This is a semi hollow body, which means there's a block down the center.
So that's going to handle some of the kind of distortion issues.
You might end up with a full hollow body.
[G#]
[F#] No issues with uncontrollable [F#m] feedback or anything.
You can give it a lot of distortion, which I like.
Okay, now for the middle position.
[E]
[C] [E] [A]
[E] [F#m] Weird tone.
It's really [A] bass-y.
[D#]
[G] [F#m] Okay, and now heavy distortion [F#] on the neck pickup.
[A] Okay, [E] [G] [E]
[A] [E]
[G] [C] [E]
[F#] final thoughts on the Starplayer TV.
This thing gets my 5 out of 5 rating.
[B] From a design standpoint, to aesthetics, to playability, I think it's pretty awesome.
[F#] Everything about it, it's done the exact way that it should be and it was easy to set up.
Yeah, I mean,
I'd become a new [B] daily player for me.
So,
thank you very much for watching.
Let me know if you have any [G#] other questions.
Let me know if you like this style of [B] shootout, if the room sounds better for you,
or if I should go back to the big room.
I think it sounded a little bit too echoey out there.
So, let me know.
