Hey guys, this [B] is Chris Schmidt from Chromatic Music.
Once again, I just want to show you real quickly what the technique I was doing on the acoustic
guitar [Cm] just to kind of follow it up and explain to you what I was trying to do on the acoustic
[G] a long, long time ago.
And again, I said this technique that I originally tried to figure out was from Victor Wooten
[C#] and I saw him kind of do it and he's like, he's so fast when he [E] does it.
I'll kind of break it down.
And again, I'm not really trying to copy him and stuff like that.
I [G] kind of just discovered this and this is what I thought he was doing.
So not to butcher it, I know you guys are, some of you guys are Victor Wooten fans, you
guys are going to make fun of me, but basically I'm just trying to break down what I did on
the acoustic guitar and how I got to that technique.
The cool thing is I got a beautiful, awesome technique that I use very [D#] well on the acoustic,
but I got it from trying it on the bass first and it just developed into something else.
So [C#] this is the technique and it's basically the same thing I [D#] was saying before, down,
up, up with the thumb and the first finger.
So what we're doing is the thumb, thumb, first finger, thumb, thumb, first finger.
[C#] And that's what it is on the acoustic guitar and you can still use that on the bass and
do stuff like this with an octave. _
_ [D#] _ _ Play chords. _ _ _
_ [F#m] _ _ [D#] _ _ [B] _ _ _
_ [D#] _ [G#m] So whatever you want to do with that, but it's the same type of [C#] thing, but that's not
slap, it's more just a [D#] flamenco thing.
So what I'm going to do is I'm going to just show you [Em] how, what I originally tried to [D#] do,
what I couldn't, which is doing a down [C#] through the first string, like on the A string, and
then I just basically pop it with the upstroke of the thumb and then the first finger is
just going to pop that string as well.
So you're going to [D#] be down, see, [C#] right there was my biggest problem when I [D#] came down here,
like you're normally just slapping a string.
I was trying to go through it and then be able to pop it.
So what I discovered, which made it a [C#] lot easier, is instead of trying to actually hit
the string directly, if this was the string I was trying to play, what I would do is actually
try to land my finger [G] on the string below it.
That way when I came up, it was able to strike the string.
So it's like a down, I'd miss it, but you'd still hear that initial [D#] hit.
Very subtle, but you hear it.
And then you pluck up, [C#] and then the first finger goes up again.
So it's down, up, up, down, up, up.
You don't even have to deal.
You just kind of get it in the_

So anyways, that's how I [Cm] explain it.
It's just doing the down, up, up, back, and you [D#] can play single strings.
