[F#]
[B] [E] Hi, I'm Steve Morris from Flying Colors [A#] and I'd like to talk a little bit about one of
the songs [A] from the new album, Second [D] Nature.
The first song I'd like to talk about [A#] is originally called Funner.
[N] We always have working [Gm] titles and I [G] have no idea where that title came from.
But [D] before they [F#] write it down [E] on the recording log of the rehearsal recording, somebody just
makes up a name for it.
So it [A#] was originally called Funner [E] and One Love Forever is the title of it, probably
on the album.
[D] So anyway, it started, like all our songs, it started with a little bit of an idea.
[C#] And it was this kind of, Casey and I like this folk [Em] Appalachian style, [F#]
[E] [B] [F#] kind of open,
really [N]
[E] Americana style.
So we started with that and then when Neil [B] came in, he came in with this group.
[A] [D] Kind of like a [Bm]
[G] former, kind of warming up.
[E]
It's really great.
[Em] The mixture of those two [Bm]
things together.
In fact, one of my favorite influences is [C#] Aaron Copland.
That [B] keeping sort of the root feel over the [E] forefoot.
[F#] [B] [N] So, you know, this song starts with the classic Steve Morse, dirge, jig, Scotch Irish, Indian
folk thing that he does so well.
I love singing over that stuff.
I feel like it's my roots are Scotch Irish.
[C] And, you know, most of us came from [N] some tribe somewhere.
So I love that about this tune.
I love, I can always use more of that stuff.
And I created this kind of weird, almost Indian [G] melody to
[A] this kind of Scotch Irish thing.
And it made me think about how tribally and melodically different people from all over
the world are kind of connected.
And so you've got that on a musical level and then you have that on [F] a lyrical level
of one love forever.
[Em] Just this idea of unity.
In [A#] fact, one of my favorite influences [G#] is Aaron Copland where he [F#] keeps the [E]
root [B] [D#] tonality
over the [E] forecourt.
Like when we [B] end a song, we go
[E] back
[B] [Em]
to the root.
So [F#] here's the intro.
[A] [E] [B]
[A] [B]
[Am] [E] [B]
[F#m] [F#]
[G#] [B]
[A] [C#]
[A#] Now the cases end with the vocals.
And then [N] what we did was actually change the feel quite a bit to go up into the chorus.
[D] [A]
[E]
[B]
So [F#] there's quite a big feel change.
And this is one of the things that basically [G] you would never [F#] do in most pop rock culture.
But with Blind [Bm] Colors, we always do [B] stuff like that.
In [G#] every song, there's some kind of weird time change, key [B] change, or [E]
tempo key.
Just feel.
[F#] And we just like it that way.
[G] So anyway, it's got quite a big change before it.
It goes to the chorus.
In fact, it's kind of [D] instantaneous.
Anyway, I [C#] hope you listen and enjoy the song.
And [F#] I hope you
Wow!
