Start Jamming...
Hi, I'm Nick from enemy and we're here backstage [D] at Glastonbury with Fontaine CC.
Hey
[E] How's it going?
Yeah good.
How are you?
Very good.
Yeah, just off that [G] gig at Jumphield stage
Very good.
So you're replacing Sam Fendard.
It's your first show of the weekend.
How does it start your Glastonbury experience?
I guess first of all since you mentioned mentioned Sam just want to give him [G] my best wishes.
Yeah, he's a really good guy
met him a couple of times before and he's just
You know, I'm sad that we're taking this place, but I know that he's happy for us.
So and hello
When did you when did you guys get here?
We got here yesterday.
Yeah.
Yeah, we were [Bb] we were supporting Liam Gallaher
[G] two days ago in Cornwall and
Yeah, we just [F] we drove down yesterday we had we had a walk around the side for a few [C] hours
[G] We're staying in a hotel like down the road.
Yeah.
Yeah, we've been we just didn't chill out since we got here
What was a supporting Liam like did he live up to like all the kind of expectations and all the rest of it?
it was
[N] It was definitely strange.
I don't know.
I mean, I've never really seen the whole kind of
[Bb]
Oasis fan fandom.
Yeah that kind of goes with him playing.
So it was very [F] interesting to see it and
[E] Yeah, I was was [B] really happy that he asked us to play, you know
[Bb] And you know this fest whole festival season is coming after you released dog roll in April.
It went in a [G] number nine
Yeah, what is it about the record that you think is just like connected with people so much?
I don't really know
I think I mean in my head, you know, I don't I don't want to speak for anyone that enjoys the record
[Em]
but I [D] think we we made a record that was honest and we made a [A] record that
[G] we I think as it was the way it's produced is a reaction to to to the climate of music right now where everything is
overproduced I think everything [Eb] is big and on [C] but it's not big in the sense that I'm
Phil Spector [G] was big, you know, it's big and I'd like all compressed and [Dm] just big guitar sounds [Eb] and huge drums and
[C] I don't know.
I [Bb] mean I feel like a lot of [D] bands that are doing that stuff like I really respect [F] right now
But um, I [A] think we're all we were all just a bit sick of that stuff
And I don't [G] know maybe maybe people connect with that side of things as [C] well
I think a lot of people connect lyrically with the with the record and even though it's a very particular
[G] team and in those [D] lyrics, I
Think you could connect to that everyone, you know, I like we're all humans and
[C]
[Db] You [G] you know, I'm sure culturally some places won't connect to it
But like what I mean is like with where we are and stuff
Even though we come from Dublin anyone in England or anywhere in Europe or in America?
We're all we're all going through the same things
I [Cm] mean, there's there's a massive lack of
[C] Culture nowadays, I think [N] I think I think culture is very disposable nowadays people pay
Not not much money to get on a flight to go anywhere
So there's not much [Bb] value to it and then they spend a lot of [E] money in two days
[F] but probably in there and the wrong [Abm] things and
[Dm] so I don't know everything seems very empty and then that in connection with [G] everyone just being distracted [Em] with a
[F] You know an abuse of social media
I think by when you put out some certain [Eb] item in front of them that [F] that is completely honest and it's just [Ab] it's just pure
Expression which is [F] everything we've ever wanted with music
I think that's something that people can connect to [Eb] because I think that's [A] something that everyone needs right now
The reason we did it is because we need that as well because we were you know, we're affected by all that stuff
We're not better than anyone else in terms of like we're all affected by the way we consume
Tourism and by the way, we consume social media
And so [G] our way to react against that and to feel something ourselves is to make that music
So the fact that that is connecting with people as well, maybe for different reasons, but in my head
That's the reasons that I I feel like
Is is something that [C] I think is happening and I mean, it's [D] beautiful something we never I
Didn't expect it to go to that to that extent.
Yeah, I really didn't
I
[C] Don't really understand my life anymore.
I don't know where it's [Bb] gone.
But [F] I'm trying to enjoy the ride and there's a lot of bands
[Eb] Who are kind of like [C] yourselves like impassioned or like something to say yourself?
[D] Idols that like it really like make people kind of prick up their ears [Eb] and listen at the moment.
What do you think that is?
[A]
and I
Think a lot of it has to do with I think the idea of like music [D] becoming popular is that
You [Eb] know these people who go to shows and buy and buy [C] tickets and like buy records that they want to like kind [D] of project
themselves onto [Ab] the music [A] and they want to connect with the music at that kind of level and I feel like
Especially as you mentioned their idols.
[Ebm] They kind of hit at that [Gm] point with the
The subjects that they were talking about and the kind of [D] vigor and their music that are really [Dm] connected with the you know
You know [Bb] UK America all across the world really, you know, I feel like people [A] were really kind of
Really wanted and I needed that music, you [A] know, and you know just [Bb] finally I mean, right?
We're right at the start
You guys have said that you're gonna be playing sets out the weekend if you like a plan
Is there anyone you're really hoping to catch or has the rest of Glastonbury gonna go down for [Am] Fontaine's DC?
[Bb] The Charlton's is one that I [A] really want to see
They're playing right now.
Sorry
I'm gonna I'm gonna write enemy a letter about this, but um, [E] no
Charlton's I got to see go girl.
They played before us.
[B] I was another big one.
Their album was amazing and
After that, [A]
I haven't really looked at the
I was really looking forward to seeing Rosalia.
I don't know if you've heard she's playing right now as well
Yeah, she's really exploding a big way
So I didn't not gonna see her now, but I'm sure we'll we'll get serious some other time.
Sure amazing.
Thanks guys
