[C] [Em] Hey folks, how you doing?
Andy with [A] you for another NailGuitar.com song lesson.
[D] Today
we're taking a look at the Foo Fighters, Times Like These.
Why are we taking a look at this
song?
Because I had the [A] joy of going to see the Foo Fighters [Am] live on Monday and I've been
in a complete [C] Foo Fighters mood ever since.
[Em] Quick question for you, when you go to a gig [D] or you have a band practice, do you wear ear
plugs to bring down the volume?
If you don't, I'm going to take a fair guess that it's going
to be one of these three [A] reasons that you don't.
First [Am] of all, it tends to muffle the
sound.
It brings down the high frequencies more than everything [C] else.
Second [Em] reason is
that they're not particularly comfortable.
[D] You have to move them around in your ears
a fair bit.
Or thirdly, because they just don't look that great.
They're these fluoro
things that stick [E] out of your ears.
Now, if [C] one of these three reasons is why you don't wear ear [Em] plugs, you'll be particularly
interested [B] in the sponsor for today's lesson, which is [C] Ear Peace, who have created ear [Em] plugs
which have basically got rid of these [B] three problems.
You can check out my [C] full review
with the annotation that we've got [Em] here and you can check out the link down below [A] to learn
more about Ear Peace and go straight through to their website.
We have a [G] chart as always with the tab and the chords and all that [Bm] sort of thing.
You
can get it, I can magically appear here on the [A] screen, you can get it, once again, you
know where, the link down below.
[G] Let's dig in.
We're starting off with a D chord, [D] but
it's not your regular D chord.
We're taking away our second finger, it's a Dsus2 and it's
going to sound like [A] this.
[E] So we've got that Esus2 there and what we're doing is we're
alternating [Abm] between taking our first finger off the string and putting it back on.
[Eb] Now,
if you're going, oh, what's that pattern, off and on, off and on, that's what you've
got the chart for with the tab there to show you.
[A] So it's 0-2-2-0-2,-2-2-0-2, so [G] the same thing twice, [A]-2-2. [Eb] Now I should mention I'm basing this off the acoustic version [A] that Dave Grohl and the rest of the band did on the Skin and [Eb] Bones live album. The original, slightly [E] different, I'll show you that after, [B] so don't fear. [D] So, 0-2-2-0-2, 0-2-2-0-2, [Dm] 0-2-2, that's right. Then you put that in the [Eb] form of the strum. You get all the other strings as well from the D string down. So, [A] and as you can see, my hand's just [G] constantly doing the down and up. [A] Again, the strumming pattern is there on the sheet to [E] guide you through those things. Alright, for the original, [G] there's multiple [Gb] guitars going on, that's why I'm doing the more acoustic version, so you can sort of get it all [D] onto one guitar. But the closest thing you're going to get to the original song at the start there, even though there's two guitars going, is getting this [C] shape. We're going to get 5 on the G, [D] 3 on the B string, and 5 on the E string. And we're going to alternate between that, and [Eb] then our second finger on the [A] 4th. So, 4-3-5. And [Ab] same idea, [G] it's going to be 4-5-5-4-5, [C] same [A] idea. So that would be, [E] [Ab] same strumming [Dm] pattern, of course. [N] Alright, from there, we then have the intro riff, [E] which also becomes the bridge riff later in the song, which is this. We're up here on the 12th and the 10th fret, or I mean [B] 10th position, so our [F] first finger there on the [Ab] 10th fret. And we're going to get this on the D string. I'll play it [D] through for you first. [G] [C] So that's going to be, on the D [D] string, [C]-12-10, [D] and then open. [G] Now, [D] 12-11 on the G, so so far, [C]-12 [D]-10, 0, and then on the G, 12-11, and then we're going to get that twice. And then [Abm] on the end of that, we're going to get, on the [D] A string, [G] 12-10. Put that all together, you [D] get,-12-10,-12-11,-12-10, [Gbm]-12-11, [G] 12-10. We're now [E] going to get onto the verse chords. So, the chords are, in its simplest, if you're just strumming, is going to be D, and we're going to get the strumming pattern of [Bb] down, down, up, [Ab] up, down. You'll have [Dm] seen this in lots of [Ab] song lessons before, if you've watched any nail guitar [A] lessons before. So, if we get our D there, you have the option of either doing D or Dsus2, there's a lot of option here, [Abm] again, because there's guitar [Gm] layers going on here, so [Gb] it's a little bit loose. So, you might see me bounce between those two. So we've got D, and then we've got D, and then we've got D, and then we've got D,
