Four Strong Winds Performed By John Tams And Barry Coope chords
Start Jamming...
The first song I ever learned, in the 60s, in the early 60s, we couldn't get, we didn't
know where to [F] find the songs.
And they used to do, I don't know, some of you may remember,
[G] they used to do sampler albums they were called, and it had maybe 10 or 12 tracks on it, and
by 10 or 12 different artists.
And this one fell into my hands, and it was by a man called
Ian Tyson.
Ian Tyson worked with a woman called Sylvia Fricker, and they were Canadians.
And he can't remember, he's still with us, Ian can't remember when he wrote this, because
he couldn't remember much at all if you were around and about in the 60s.
So he thought
it might have been 63 or 64, I got older at about that time.
[N] And it's called Four Strong
Winds, and if you know it at all, please sing it, because it would be great, because
he sings so beautifully.
[Bb]
He was [Bbm] awarded quite recently, well the [G] Canadian equivalent of
the Legion of Honour, for this song, and the fact that it was also voted Canada's favourite
song, which if you think about all the other writers in Canada, good luck to Ian, I hope
he's well.
[F] I tried to get all the turns who were in their 60s to sing the first song they
ever learned, but Martin Carthy, who was a celebrated singer, as you'll know, did Heartbreak
Hotel on an album, so that was good.
This is Four Strong Winds, and then [Gm] we'll do something
else.
[F] [Cm]
[G] Hooray, we'll do this, we're about half way through, [E] we'll do something else,
[C] [Bb] it's
[F] [Cm]
[Bb] like a letter.
[Cm] [F]
[Bb] [Cm]
[F] [Bb]
[F] [Cm]
[Fm] [F]
[Bb] [F] [Cm]
[F] [Bb]
[Cm] [Dm] [Cm] If I'm ever back [F] this way, think [Bb] I'll go out to [F] [Cm] Alberta, they [F] say the weather's good in
[Bb] the fall, [Eb] [Bb] I've got some friends that [D] I can go to [F] working for, but I [Bb] wish you'd [Cm] change
[F] your mind, if I asked you one [Bb] more time, but [Cm] we've been through [Dm] [Eb]
that a hundred [F] times or
more.
Four [Bb] strong winds, good, [Cm] that blow lonely, [F] seven seas that [Bb] run high, [Eb] [Bb] all these things
that [Cm] don't change, Lord, [F] don't what may.
[Bb] Though the good times [Cm] are all gone, [F] and I'm bound
to [Bb] moving on, [Cm] I'll look [Bb] for you [Eb]
if I'm ever back [F] this way.
And if [Bb] I get there before the
[Cm] snow flies, [F] and if things are [Bb] looking good, you could meet me [D] if [Cm] I sent you [F] down the fair, [Bb] but
by then it would [Cm] be winter, [F] not much for you [Bb] to do, [Cm] and the [Dm] wind's [Eb] sharp and blow cold [F] way out
there.
[Dm] Four [Bb] strong winds that [Cm] blow lonely, [F] seven seas that [Bb] run high, all these things that [Cm] don't
change, Lord, [F] don't what may.
Though [Bb] the good times [Cm] are all gone, [F] and I'm bound to [Bb] moving on, [Cm] I'll look
for [Dm] you [Eb] if I'm ever back [F] this way.
I'll [Cm] look for [Dm] you [Eb] if I'm ever back [F] this way.
[Bb] Ian Tyson.
