[G] Well, this is another [Bb] song that's on that record, and it's about [Bb] as American of a tune
as you're going to get.
I always [G] try to introduce it as such, and in this particular version,
I learned from a rather [Eb] unheralded banjo player by the name of Land Norris, who was one of
the earliest, I think probably one of the first solo banjo players to ever record and
sing.
[Bb] And he started off playing with Phil and John Carson in 23, and he made some great records.
[G]
Cumberland gal, it's not [Em] my home, [G] I'm gonna leave old Cumberland.
Cumberland gal, it's
a devil of a plain, can't get the water for it, wash your face.
Me and my wife, [Em] my wife's
a foul, [G] run all day to that Cumberland gal.
Come on boys, [Em] take your [G] reams, gonna have
a battle with the ticks and fleas.
Old land diners, [Em] if you don't care, [G] see my Jimmy John's
right there.
If it's not there, when I get back, I'll race him, that Cumberland gal.
Cumberland gal.
Yeah, Frank Fairfield, in the Roadhouse on KEXP.
Frank's dressed in some black shoes,
some brown tweed pants, looks like, and a gray overcoat, white shirt, middle parting
there, side parting on the hair.
You seem like you're straight from the pages of the
Anthology of American Folk Music, Frank.
Oh, is it?
Oh, goodness.
Yeah.
Even your name, Frank Fairfield.
I'm just trying to be a respectable gentleman.
