[G]
[E] [A]
[G] [D]
[A] [E]
[G]
[E]
[G] I am not overly [E] concerned with the status of my emotions
She says you're changing, [G] always changing
It does not bother me [Em] to say this isn't love
[G] If you don't want to talk about it [Em] then it isn't love
And I guess [G] I'm gonna have to live with [Em] that
But I'm sure there's [E] something in a shade of [C] grey
Or [D] something in [Em] between
And I could always change my [C] name if that's what you [E] mean
My friend assures me [Em] it's all or nothing
But [G] I am not really worried
I am not [A] overly concerned
You [E] try to tell yourself the things you try to tell yourself
To [A] make yourself [G] forget, to make yourself forget
I am not worried, [Em] that's what she says
[C]
Gonna have to [G] start to think about the [Em] consequences
She don't get [C] enough sleep in a quiet [D] room
And this time [G] when kindness pours [A] like rain
[D] It washes me [G] away
And Anna [Em]
begins [D] to change her mind
And every time [E] she sneezes I believe it's [G] love
No, no, no
[Em]
I'm not ready [D] for this sort of thing
[E] But I'm not gonna bend
And I'm not [G] gonna worry about it anymore
I'm not [E] gonna break
And I'm not gonna bend
And I'm not gonna [G] worry about it anymore
And on and on and on [E] and on
It seems like I should say
As long as [G] it's love
But it's not all that easy
So maybe I [B] should wrap her up in a butterfly net
And [C] pin her down on a photograph [G] album
I am not worried
I've done this sort of [Em] thing before
And Anna [D] starts to think [Em] about the consequences
She can't stop shaking
And I [G] can't stop touching her
And this time [C] when kindness [E] pours like rain
[D] It washes me [G] away
And Anna begins [D] to change my [G] mind
These seconds when I'm shaking leave [D] me shuddering for days Oh [G] lord
I'm not [D] ready for this sort [G] of thing
[C] She's talking in her sleep
[D] And it's keeping me [G] awake
[Em] And Anna begins to change my [G] mind
[C] And every word is [E] nonsense
But I understand it [G] all
[C] Lord
And [G] I'm not ready [D] for this sort of [G] thing
And [C] her kindness lands a [E] gong
And [D] it's moving me [G] on
And Anna begins to [D] fade [G] away
It's [Em] chasing me away [D] She disappears
And oh [C] lord
[Bm] I'm not ready [D] for this sort of thing
[C] [Ab]
[Ab] [A] [G]
[G] [Ab]
[Abm]
And effectively bullied me into learning how to play the songs on it
Because she wanted to sing along with them
And I thought they were some wussy acoustic guitar band at the time
But I did learn how to play all the songs on that record
And sort of looking back on it now
I think it gave me a really, really firm grounding
In songwriting as an art form
And I've sort of gone on there
I would count them as one of my biggest influences
One of my favourite bands
[Ab]
[G] And actually yeah, I finally met Adam Duretz earlier this year
We were in [E] Australia
I'd been kind [Ab] of almost crossing paths with him a couple of times
And we have a few mutual friends
And I knew that he knew who I was
[E] But I kept missing him at airports and stuff
And we got to Byron Bay Blues Festival in [Ab] Australia
And our dressing room was directly opposite theirs
So I got a Dex here and I plonked it down in front of theirs
And I was like right, I'm going to sit here until I meet this [Am] bastard
And I did
And he [A] was an absolute sweetheart
And he was really nice
And [Ab] I then walked away
And I called my sister
Even [G] though it was like 4am in the UK
[Gb] And I said, I win at life!
And she said, I'm never speaking to you again
[A] And everyone lived happily ever [Bb] after
But yeah, [G] they're one of my sort of foundation bands [N] Brilliant
And you're massive on covers
I think anyone who's a massive fan of you
[Am] Will know that you will just play so many different songs
And [Gb] a real variation on Ava Queen
As [G] well as No [Ab] Effects and things like that
How [G] do you decide what covers to [A] play?
I like to think, first of all
I'm just a fan of songwriting really
It's [Ab] my preferred thing that I listen for
I don't really care how it gets dressed up
And I think there's more in common between Ava and No Effects
Than actually, at least on the level of pure songwriting
[A] I think that
I mean the way that I've [E] always
I learn to play guitar by ear
By just playing along with songs
And to this day if I hear a song that I like
I learn how to play it
And I think it's quite a cool way of learning about songwriting
And also I just [N] remember reading an interview with Evan Dando years ago
Who's another guy who I consider a big influence
And he was like, to be a singer songwriter is two separate things
You're a singer and a songwriter
And it doesn't mean you always have to [Abm] sing your own songs
And there's something kind of fun and cool [Gm] about
About interpreting other people's materials
[C] [Bm] [D]
