[A] Back in the TV!
[E] [N] Hi from Greenawn, Telfish, Kirki.
We're here in Greenawn, Riverlea Hotel in Kirki.
And today on the show we have very special guests, Frankie Gavin and Aidan Coffey.
Woohoo!
How are you this morning?
Pretty good, thanks.
Pretty well.
Great.
What are you going to play for us today?
I'm going to play a couple of jigs that I wrote a good few years ago in fact.
One of them is called the Grimnian Jig and the other one is called the Dumb Man's Wallet.
Don't ask me about that.
Don't do bubble jigs anyway.
I have to ask you.
Don't ask me!
Okay, okay, we'll talk afterwards.
Take it away.
Okay.

Thank you, Joanne.
[N] Big fan, grown up listening to you so it's a great privilege to have you on the balcony.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
You play yourself, yeah?
What do I play?
Oh, I'm learning the fiddle.
You wouldn't want to listen to me though.
I grew up playing piano and stuff but I wouldn't be a very good musician so
I do the other kind of work behind the scenes.
So how do we find out more about Frankie Gavin and Aidan Coffey?
Well, we're playing at the Cork Folk Festival tonight in City Hall
and that show starts at eight o'clock and we're on about ten-ish or something like that.
There's a whole host of great musicians on, singers, [Gb] Jimmy Crowley and Stoke Bravant of course,
great Cork band, a great Cork name there on.
And who else?
John Splann.
John Splann of course, directed Aidan by Crannach, [Bb]
Artie Midlin, [N] Noligan, Marion Casey.
There's a huge lineup.
So I think it's called the Gathering Concert.
What isn't called the Gathering?
I know, I know.
Come to think of it.
But anyway, it's all in a good cause.
And any tours coming up?
I've just finished a new album with my band, Danon, and it's called Jigs and Jazz Mark 2.
Because the first one I did was with Jigs and Jazz, the title Jigs and Jazz was with
[G] Stephanie Grappelli with [N] Jazz Violins, which Italian jazz violins.
Amazing.
We did that with Dermot Brown, Steve Clooney and Cara Hyshen a good few years ago.
I liked the title so much I thought I'd use it again and call it Mark 2.
So that's [N] Danon's new album.
We've just finished, it's about to be released.
We are doing all sorts of capers as you do, you know, and just building the thing all
the time and hoping that traditional Irish music becomes at the pitch and the level that
I feel that it should be at in Ireland.
I think that Irish people should listen to it and with the same, and they do, and they
respect Irish music of course.
The level that Irish music is regarded in other countries like America, Germany or any
other country, it's actually held with such high esteem and I'm looking forward to that
day coming around a bit more stronger in Ireland.
I think that's it.
Sorry about the long speech.
Oh no, it's great.
I didn't think I was going to write a lot like that.
You only get to have a [G] private chat with yourself so [N] that's important as well.
Great, well thanks for taking the time to come on the [Eb] balcony.
It's a pleasure.
It's a privilege.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very [N] much Frankie Gavin.
Thank you Aidan.
See you later.
Check them out, Aidan Coffey and Frankie Gavin and tune in again for another Balcony TV Court.
