Now just a heads up.
I am playing this tune in dadgad tuning [D] which is to say starting with my lowest string
I've got a D and a a D a
G [A] and a [D] and a D
[Eb] This tune the butterfly is in 9 8 time and what that means is this for each measure of music
We'll have nine eighth notes
Not as scary as it sounds basically we're going to break them down into groups of three, so we'll have one two three
Four five six seven eight nine, so we'll have three groups of three per measure the timing will feel like this
One two three four five six seven eight nine one two three four five six seven eight nine
What I'll do in terms of playing that rhythm with my pick is this each group of three will consist of a
Downstroke that covers the first two beats
One two and an upstroke that covers the third beat three
one two three one two three one two three
Or a whole measure of music in nine eight would be one two three four five six seven eight nine one two three
[D] Four five six seven eight nine in a more musical context.
Here's what that nine eight timing sounds like and feels like
[E] One two three four five six seven eight nine one two three four five six seven eight nine one two three four five six seven eight nine
[D]
Next I'll just show you a close-up of how to play the tune
