_ _ _ _ _ The Midtown Custom, though it's inspired by a 335, the hollow body _ and the shape are about where the similarities end.
The [N] body is a little bit smaller than a 335.
Not as small as a 339, _ _ but definitely smaller than a 335.
It's a flat top, _ _ rather than the traditional carved top. _
_ _ _ _ And that's about it.
The mahogany body in this, rather than it being maple laminate top and back,
is a solid mahogany core _ _ _ that they've routed out all of the internal cavities and stuck a maple cap on top.
And that really gives it that mid-tone bark that sits it tonally between the 335 and the Les Paul. _
_ _ In terms of playability, _ compared to a 335, it's a little bit foreign.
_ Because of the flat top, you don't have that big bulk sitting around your gut.
_ The neck is different, it's a 60's slim taper as opposed to the thick C that you'll get with a 335. _ _
_ The Rich Light _ fretboard, which is a composite effectively built from paper and resin, _ _ _ doesn't affect the playability at all.
It feels like a rosewood board.
_ If it wasn't for the fact that Gibson announce and promote the fact that they're using this _ sustainable _ _ material,
rather than rosewood, you wouldn't notice the difference.
_ So, the song at the top of the video, _ I've bounced the DI's from each of the guitars.
_ They're in the description below, you can download those so you can run this guitar and the 335 through your own rig and compare it for yourself.
What do these guitars _ sound like through your amp? _ _
Similarly, with the tone comparisons we're just about to have a look at, I've done the same for those DI's. _
So, here we have the Gibson Midtown Custom.
