Can God [Dbm] [Gb] ransom back a [Gb] life?
[Abm] Can He ransom back a marriage?
[Bbm] Can He [B] ransom back our [Gb] children?
Can He ransom [E] back our past, our present, our future, our hopes, our dreams?
[Dbm] [Gb] I love what David says in Psalm 68 [Abm] 20, he says,
Our God is a God who [Bbm] saves.
[B]
And I grew [Bb] up the son of an evangelist, a preacher,
[Gb] and [E] in Sunday school I probably heard the phrase,
Jesus is [Gb] my Savior more times than I can count.
But the phrase [Abm] was like bones without flesh.
It just never [Ab] took on meaning.
[B] It never sunk in.
It was just a phrase.
[E] And my father and I, we had a rough relationship.
It wasn't [Gb] great.
And in my teenage years, when I was 13, I started down a [Abm] path of alcohol and drug addiction.
And [Gb] from when I was 13 on [B] until my early 20s, it was dark.
It was heavy [E] substance abuse.
In the last five years of this very dark [Gb] chapter, I was a crystal meth addict.
And [Abm] every day for those five years, I was using crystal [Bbm] meth.
[B] And at one point, you know, I [Gb] was just thinking it got so bad [E] that I knew that this is how I would die.
And I remember [Gb] the scary part about it was I was okay with it
because I couldn't imagine [Abm] ever being [E] able to be free from the hold of this [Gb] spiral that had [B] become my life.
But I [E] didn't know that I was about to encounter the God that saves.
[Db]
[Abm] So, it's [Bbm] good.
[B] He is who he says he is.
And so, [E] let me just capture a moment for you.
It's my story, but [Gb] it's all of our stories.
[Dbm] So imagine a room.
[Abm] It's dark.
It's empty.
[Bbm] Your thoughts [B] are almost deafening.
With phrases like, [E] there's no hope.
[B] This situation is [Gb] too far gone.
It's too late.
This is [Abm] unredeemable.
You are unredeemable.
[Bbm] And then [B] a voice whispers,
[E] and it's familiar, [B] but yet frightening.
[Gb]
And this voice [Abm] whispers some words, a phrase [Bbm] that topples every [B] tower of despair, of shame, of pain, [E] of hurt.
With one phrase,
[Gb] as he begins to say these words to you, this all crumbles.
[Abm] He says, I am the God that saves.
[Bbm] [B]
From ashes, from ashes I ransom.
[E] From rubble I rebuild.
I restore.
I revive.
I [Gb] redeem. I renew.
I'm revealing myself to you.
[Abm] Do you want to know me?
[Bbm] And like many saints [B] before us, we tremble in [E] the presence of this God [Db] that says these [Gb] words.
And we say, God, [Abm] I want to know you.
I don't know how to let go of all this.
[B] I [Abm] don't know how to be anything else.
I don't know how to let go of the [E] hurt, the hopelessness, the destruction.
[Gb] This situation is gone.
It's too [Gbm] much, Lord.
[Abm]
I don't know how to [Bb] let go of this life, this [B] world that I've let surround me like a lifeless tomb, Lord.
[E]
I don't know how to do it.
[Gb]
And then the voice that spoke [Abm] stars and mountains and all things [Eb] into being [B] says, [Gb] you don't have to, because I will.
[E]
Do you believe that I am who I say I am?
[Gb] Do you believe I am [Db] the God that saves?
[Abm] And as you agree with his nature and how he's revealed himself [B] to you, like [E] the sun piercing through [B] the trees after a storm,
you [E] see with new [Gb] eyes the one who is beautiful and [Ab] powerful and has [Abm] always been there.
And now [Ab] that thing that [B] seems immeasurable and overwhelming to get past seems so small in [B] his greatness.
[Db]
And I encountered this [B] God, and I know him [Abm] intimately.
This same [Ab] God said to [Abm] me, I transform meth [Ab] addicts into worship [B] leaders.
Right?
[E] Good.
So [Db] good.
[Gb] And this same God is revealing himself [Abm] to everyone in this room right now.
[Bbm] He says, I am the God [B] that saves.
Do you want to know me?
I am the Zephaniah [E] 317 God.
I am mighty to [Gb] save.
Right?
I delight in you.
I will quiet you with my love.
[Abm]
I will sing over you.
It's [Bbm] like a father who [B] has found his long lost child.
This God is [E] revealing himself to us in this room.
He's saying to you right now, [Gb] lean in.
[E] And if you listen [Abm] carefully, you will hear me [Bbm] sing [B] over you a song.
[E] A song of redemption.
A song that quiets all the raging [Gb] rivers.
A [Gbm] song of salvation.
[Abm] A song of victory.
[Bbm] God, we love you.
[B] Because you are the God that [Gb] saves.
And you don't stop there.
It's not just [E] the moment of salvation, Lord.
You redeem the [Dbm] broken [Gb] marriages.
You save us from the situations that we [Abm] think are hopeless, God.
[Bbm]
You are ever [B] faithful at this, Lord.
And we want to love you well [E] in this moment right now.
It's the God that saves.
[B] Let's stand.
[Gb] [N]
Can God [Dbm] [Gb] ransom back a [Gb] life?
