[A]
[E] Hank [A] Williams, Patsy Cline, and Johnny Cash, some of country's greatest legends, have played
here at the [F] Ryman.
And that great tradition continues with the Gaither Vocal Band and one amazing [Bb] tenor named David Feltz.
A [F] shooting star that [Gm] tumbles down.
[Eb] Its flame cannot [F] endure.
Scarlet rose [Gm] withers brown [D]
[Eb] to lose its [F] fragrance.
You've [Eb] been described as the greatest tenor there is.
I mean, I've heard all these [Db] amazing things.
You had quite a few teachers in high school, because you did start so young, that [Eb] really
wanted you to go to the opera route all the time.
Yeah, that's right.
How'd you get past all that and find [Am] out where you wanted to be?
Well, [Ab] what did it was, [Gb] in my little town of Tomball, Texas, I sang for a talent competition.
And I was trying to find out something I was good at, because [E] there was a lot of things
I wasn't good at that I knew of.
So I was nine-nine.
Yeah, I sang this [C] song.
I just, it was so awkwardly, I stepped out in front of the microphone, sang my [Am] song,
and then as soon as I was finished, I ducked [Ab] my head and went back, and I walked behind
the curtain, [Db] and they said, they're standing up out there.
So [Ab] I had to go to the side and [D] look and peek out, just so I could see it.
And I thought, okay, this is something [A] I can latch on to and I can do.
[C] And really from that moment, I look back now and I see how odd [E] it is.
From [Am] that moment on, I knew that this is what I [A] wanted to do.
It was about 10th [Am] grade that my mom, I sang [Ab] a song in church, and my mom said, [Gb] I'm afraid
you're trying to sing too high, and you're going to hurt your voice.
So she said, let's get you into voice lessons.
So [G] I started taking down at [Db] University of Houston [Ab] from a great [Am] teacher, and then went
to Baylor [Gbm] after I graduated and [Ab] got a degree in [Am] music.
They said, my dad, my [Gb] accountant dad said, [N] okay, if you're going to do music, which I'm
not sold on yet, you're going to go to school and learn how [Db] to do it right.
So then you won the seminar and you were set.
Everything you got, [Em] everything you ever wanted, and you and your [G] wife knew to.
So I went to Justice Park [E] and I won the [Am] seminar and it was great.
I walked home with a trophy [E] back into anonymity.
I mean, you know, it was, [Eb] it was everything, you know, [F] and what kept ringing [Ab] through my
ears were the voices of a [Ab] lot of the artists who I [E] just looked up to so much.
I'd go to Christian bookstores and spend all day Saturday in front of the accompaniment
track section and just, okay, what are the ones that I can sing?
And, you know, so this is what, this is what my, the fire was inside of me.
So, and I [E] just would sing everywhere.
Anybody would listen [F] to me.
You hit the point with your wife, Lori, where y'all had been [Db] here and nothing was happening
and you were [Am] running out of money, right?
And God brought Lori to me.
She's another one of those people in my life, not only for a great [E] friend and mate and you
[Db] know, why she keep you humble with nine platinum videos.
[A] She said, you are not all that.
Change this [D] diaper.
No, but she is the reason, you know, I was debating, should we move to Nashville?
I really [Am] want to, I feel like it's the next step.
She said, you know, she was, we were fixing [Bb] to buy a house and I was really doing that
[E] for her because I wanted to give that to her in Dallas.
And she said, this isn't right.
We were on the way to close.
She said, this isn't right.
Turned around, backed out of [Am] that and within a week we moved to Nashville.
[Gbm] And it was just as hard [E] as I thought it was going to be.
It was [C] really hard.
And so I went, after about six months, went on a [A] vacation back to Texas with my family
[F] and said, we're going to have to move back.
[Ab] [Am] And we prayed all week and I got in the car with faith, [G] with my family and, you know,
feeling like such [F] a vagabond [Ab] and said, okay.
And we drove back [C] to Nashville specifically [G] for a meeting [Gbm] with Word.
And [Ab] I'd met with other record [Am] labels.
Nothing had happened, but the doors just flew open, you know, and it was so obvious that
God was in control.
And like a snowball rolling downhill, within two weeks [Ab] I was a member of the Begather Vocal [Gbm] Band.
They had [A] mentioned it and put me in contact.
And so it was just an incredible moment.
From Little League to the Yankees.
I could not get hit by a truck standing out [Eb] in the middle of the street.
[D] And then all of a [Am] sudden, you know, I'm on stage the next weekend in [D] front of 18,000 people, you know.
We know everybody loves you [A] with the Begather Vocal Band.
And they love you as a [D] solo artist.
And we said thank you for being with [A] us.
Good News with [D] Don and Cheryl is brought to you by [A] Evan Almighty in theaters June [D] 22nd.
[C] Hey, Dad, look, two doves.
Hmm.
Why are all these [Em] animals [G] following Evan Baxter?
[A] [Ab]
Sheep!
God only knows.
I want [Gm] you to build an army.
From the director of Bruce [Eb] Almighty comes the story of an ordinary man.
This is so awesome!
[Ab] Who was born to rock the boat.
I [Eb] can't even get my cat to use the litter box.
