Welcome to another video by VA Music Ministry.
Today we're going to be
focusing on chords and progressions related to some gospel techniques and
this is the third edition.
You gotta excuse me I'm a little bit my allergies
I have terrible allergies but we're gonna get through it so let's pray first
before we get into these different techniques.
Father God we thank you for
all that you have done we ask right now in the name of Jesus that Father God that
you give me the talents and ability to teach Father God and help me Father God
to be able to give all of my talents back to you Father God to be able to
help the people and I thank you for blessing me with these talents in Christ
Jesus name we pray amen.
Alright so this is what we got.
First one is going to be
a little bit of a jazzy lick and I never forget I was watching a I mean not
watching I was with a musician in the city and he did this we was doing like
not a game show but some type of show talk show I mean and what was going on
is that he ended up doing this lick and I was like what is that lick and it's
very simple this is going to be one of the most simplest licks you'll ever
learn and you can add it to your repertoire I'm playing and what it is is
just a little you've ever if you've ever heard a circle of fourth circle of fifths
if not lick it up I teach it on my strictly for beginners DVD but it's all
it is it's a little circle for a circle of fifths you can add it till kind of
like a funk groove or [B] really to any type of church groove if you want to for real
so let's uh we're gonna be in the key of E flat [Fm] E flat is the one [G] F is the two [Ab] G
is the three A flat is [Eb] the four B flat is the five [D] C is the six [Eb] D is the seven
back in E flat with the one [Ab] [Bb] all right so here we go this is what we're gonna do
we're gonna do a [Eb]
E flat [Ab] A [Eb] flat and you notice on my right hand I got the octaves
E [Ab] flat A [Db] flat D [Gb] flat [B] F sharp B [Em] [Am] E A so all I'm [Ab] doing is [Db] very [Gb] [B]
[Em] [A] simple
[Ab] [Gb] all [Bm] [A]
[Ab] right
now the thing about it is if you've ever heard a game show or talk show whatever
[Ebm] which you'll find out you'll you'll actually hear this same sound but a lot
of times they're using a brass instrument some type of brass and they'll
do something like this it'll sound like this [Ab] [Db]
[Gb] [B] [Dbm] it'll [Gbm]
sound like it [Ab] and so I'm sure
when once I play it he's like oh yeah I've heard that before so it's like [Db] [Abm] and
[Eb]
[A] [Db] I'm using the Velo Falls I believe it's pronounced it's on [Eb] the brass and what it
does if you hold it it actually gets louder so that's what I'm using now [N] once
again I'm going to give some different examples or whatever but let's just say
you're in [Eb] church and your E flat [Db]
[Cm] piece [Bbm] [Eb]
[Db] [Cm] [Eb]
[Ab] [Db] [Gb] [B] [E] [Am]
[Bbm] [Ab]
[N] of cake so it's a very very simple lick
I want to play it in context I'm gonna get a little band going I'll have my
stuff going it's a little just a little jazz lick that I've learned from
musician in the city you can add it to your church playing however you want to
if you just want to you know mess around with it do it as a joke one
Sunday somebody makes a joke [Eb] about you know a TV show or something you can [Ab] do
[Db] [Ebm] [Abm] [A] all right so let's do this little lick and we'll learn this real quick here we
go [Em] [Db] [Ab]
[Bbm] we [Eb] [Db]
want to we want to turn this down just a little bit because I don't want
to just go overboard with that bass that bass was kicking here we go we're gonna
do it for real all right let's try it again here we go
one two three all [Bbm] [Ab] right [Bbm] [B] [Eb] [Bbm]
[Ab] [Db]
[Ebm] [Bbm] [Ab]
[Eb]
[Bbm] [Ab] [Db]
[Gb] [B] [Em] [A]
[F] [Bbm] [Ab]
[G] [Abm]
pretty simple right so you just do it [Dbm] [Gb] that's [Bm] [E]
[Am] [Bbm]
[Cm] [Ab] easy
that's piece of cake so you can add that to your church playing I've done it a
few times and not to try to you're not doing this to try to raise eyebrows
you're doing all of this to enhance your playing enhance the music enhance the
sound come up with different ideas but you definitely probably will raise my
eyebrows if people [Eb] have never heard it before are they like hold on I've heard
that like a talk show or something but it kind of add [Db]
[Cm] [Bbm] [N] it definitely adds
something to your repertoire now this second one I'm gonna tell you a lot of
people after the gospel technique second edition a lot of people was asking about
man you did some type of you did some type of diminished movement man what was
you know man can you do more diminished movements we love it diminished
movements so since you've been asking for diminished movements I'm going to
give you more diminished movements it's just something real sweet a lot of
people do it you can definitely add it to your playing and almost any song that
you do and there's a little technique behind it so I'm going to show you a
technique to where you can play it in any song no matter what song it is you
can do this and I'm gonna teach it a little secret to it that I hadn't learned
over the years and I kind of like okay so that's how they put it that little
concept into all the little [D] different songs so here we go we're gonna be in
the key of D
[Gm] [Fm] [Ab] [Gb] [Fm]
[Ebm] [Dm] [Gb]
[Cm] [F] [Ebm]
[Bbm] [A] [Gb] [Bb]
[Ab] [C] [Gb]
[Fm] [Bm] [Am] [Fm]
[Gb] [Eb] [F] [Gb]
[Ab] [Gb]
