[Eb] [Abm] You're down, you need [Bm] [Abm] [Eb] a home.
[Abm] Look for a friend.
[Eb] Find and call.
And [Ab] my heart [Abm] gets worried.
[Dbm] Once COVID hit, and it was obvious that we were all going to be [Abm] isolated for a long period of time,
I really found myself [Db] writing [Abm] constantly, for several reasons, one of which was I had the time.
[Dbm] You know, I write on the [Cm] road, but [Abm] I write much better at home.
And [Eb] I haven't been [Dbm] home this long since I was 15 years old.
[Eb] [Ebm] Home is [Abm] never down.
There's a lot of reflection involved of your life up to that point.
I mean, even to the point where, was there anything [Db] I missed all these years?
You know, you were [Abm] able to touch on things like that, you know.
What have I missed or what do I need to do that I haven't done yet?
And that was kind of the attitude.
And just keeping myself in [Eb] shape, use it or lose it.
It [Abm] afforded me an opportunity to work on my chops, practice, learn.
It afforded me an opportunity to reacquaint [Eb] myself with my studio and [Abm] get caught up with gear and that whole thing,
in service of writing new music, which I did a lot of.
Most inspirationally, [Dbm] my wife and I got to reconnect in a way that we haven't in a really long time.
[Abm]
Yeah, [Dbm] [Abm]
I actually enjoyed [Dbm] it.
Spent time with my family, [Eb] you know, a whole year with my son.
It was good.
[Dbm] First few months, slight panic, I would say.
[Gb] Didn't know what to do, how to make [Dbm] money.
But after a while, [Abm] I started to pick up work out of my home studio, [Dbm] producing, recording, mixing, [Abm] stuff like that.
What [Ebm] I tried to [Abm] do [Dbm] was notice that it was really the [Abm] first time I was home for an extended period in many, [Eb] many years.
Because we've been touring, and my time with the band at that point was already [Abm] 18 years.
That's a long time to be away.
Most excitedly for me was I really got to practice piano.
[Eb]
[Abm] I spent a lot of time that I've never spent over the years, because as I told you, I sort of [Ab] came by piano [Eb] in a crisis.
[Ebm] And [Abm] tried to get up to speed as quickly as I could, but I never sat down and really [Ab] [Dbm] said,
OK, what do you want to learn?
[Abm] Is it going to take six months?
If it does, [Bm] let's get [Abm] started.
I was ready for this.
[Dbm] I really wanted to be.
I [Abm] didn't want to come back and play [Dbm] my same old, same old and [Ab] feel that.
I wanted to come back and go, hey, I baked [Dbm] a cake, you want to try it?
It's the beauty of being [Eb] in a [Gb] long-term relationship, be [Abm] it a marriage, a gang, a band.
[Ebm] It's all kind of the same thing.
And how are we going to start this up again?
[Abm] Government Mule's been together 26, 27 years [Db] now.
And [Eb] I've known Warren longer than [Abm] that.
We're going into 30 years plus.
So you're able to pick up where you left off.
And what a feeling [B] that is.
[Abm] It's just, that's what life affords you when you do something and you do it over and over [Db] again and [Abm] it's part of you.
I think if I took anything away that I hadn't thought about prior,
[B] it's [Ab] how [Eb] important it is [Abm] for everyone to kind of be able to do what they love in life.
Not that I take it for granted, because I don't,
but when [Dbm] you're forced into a situation where you can't do what you [Abm] love,
it makes you really appreciate [Dbm] being blessed with the opportunity to do [Abm] that.
Especially someone like myself that [C] has the opportunity [Dbm] to do it for a living.
I always tell people [Abm] I have the best job in the world, and [Eb] I think this [Dbm] drove that home.
