[D] I don't [C] remember what city we were [D] in but somewhere 1990 I guess [Dm] I [Dbm] walked down
to Alan [Bb] Woody's hotel room from [Dm] my hotel room to like borrow toothpaste or
something [E] and I [Dm] [D] had an acoustic [A] guitar with me like I do [Dm] a lot of times and I
walked in and he and Greg Allman were [B] sitting there they just [Em] started working
on a [D] song which at the time was gonna be called King of the Hill and so I walked
in and I was [Dm] playing [C] [Dm] and [E] Greg said well [N] that's what we need right there I was
like what I didn't even know they were writing a song I was like what are you
talking about he said we're working on a song that's what we need [Dm] so I went in
and we started working [N] on this song that they had [Eb] started writing some lyrics to
but didn't have any [N] music and so we started [Ab] adding what [B] lyrics they had had
at that time to [Dm] something that would and [Ebm] so we [Dm] started writing and I said what's
the name of it and they said [F] I think it's gonna [Dm] be called King of the Hill
and without [N] thinking I said oh there are Roger McGuinn [Dbm] song that just came
out on the [F] radio called King [D] of the Hill and Greg [F] or Woody [C] once said oh [N] we're not
gonna [Am] call it that then [Dm] god [N] forbid somebody think we stole [Dm] it so so [N] we kept
working on it and working on it and working on it and a lot of the lyrics
started coming and I was [B] looking at what they had and we're trying to figure out
where to go [D] with [Dm] it some point I said [F] we started changing [N] the versions and
changing the chorus and ended up with the [Gm]
what later would be called end of
[G] the line and so [N] somehow King of the Hill turned into end of the line and anyway
[Dm]
[C]
[G] [Dm]
[C] [G] [D] I'm glad I'm not in trouble
[Dm] It's hard that I can bear
[G] Sometimes my luck was so [D] bad
He had to fold my hands
[C] My arms was lost, was sore
[G] Barely I could find my head
[Gm] Wake up early in the morning
[C] To see the new again
[F] [D]
[G] I [D] was never afraid of danger
[Am] In the jungle on [Dm] the chin
[G] The mountains, high climbs
[D] Must have killed a thousand men
[C] Spent most of my lifetime downtown
[G] Sleeping behind the wheel
[Gm] Never needed anybody [A] else
But King of the Hill
[G]
Without thinking [D] I told this
[C]
Oh, [G] there's so much to your children that [D] I lost
[G] [C] One [G] life for you, but it seems
[D] I'm just falling for her broken dreams
[F] Guess [C] I opened my eyes
[G] [Bb] Cause it's your feeling [C] like the end [Dm] of the line
[E] [G] [D]
[C] [G] [F] [D]

[C] No matter how hard I run
[G]
I can't get away
[Gm] Try to do my best
[D] But the devil gets in my way
[E] Spent most of my lifetime
[G]
Sleeping behind the [Gm] wheel
Killing on Cape [G] Town
[A] To kill on VT
[C] Oh, [G]
I'm not thinking [D] about that old days
[C] [G]
[F] [D] [C] One life for [G] you, but it seems
I'm [D] just falling for her broken dreams
[F] Guess [C] I opened my [G] eyes
[Bb] [C] Cause it's your feeling like the end [D] of the line
